U.S. News and World Report Rankings
As you may know, there have been several highly ranked law schools (Berkeley, Yale, Harvard) and medical schools (Michigan, Stanford, Columbia) who have publicly decided not to participate in the U.S. News and World Report rankings. Presidents and Deans cite many issues with the rankings but it boils down to the belief that USNWR uses a flawed methodology, prizes wealth and reputation over academic quality, and generally treats every college academic experience as the same. Many college and university presidents are now debating the merits of the rankings.
Here at Colorado College, we are having the same discussions. To inform our thinking, we hope you will answer four simple questions. Your recent experience is extremely helpful. Thank you!

Cultivating the Beloved Community: It Starts with Me
On Monday, Jan. 30, CC students had the opportunity to hear from Rev. Dr. Jamie Washington through his impactful talk titled, "Cultivating the Beloved Community: It Starts with Me." Washington (he/him/his) is the president and founder of the Washington Consulting Group, named by The Economist as one of the Top 10 Global Diversity Consultants in the world. To share in the CC experience, and provide you with background to continue the conversation with your student, we encourage you to read more about Washington and watch the recording of his recent talk.
The First Mondays event series is a campus-wide forum held on the first Monday of each block that aims to engage all members of the CC community. The series encourages everyone to be part of the intellectual life of the college and facilitates discourse among students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members across courses, disciplines, and divisions. To find out about upcoming First Mondays topics and presenters, and to view past recordings, click here.

All students received an initial email for room selection on Feb. 1. Room selection for the 2023-24 academic year starts on Feb. 27 for rising sophomores and rising juniors (current first-years and sophomores). Students must sign their housing agreement between Feb. 27 — Mar. 27 to receive a housing selection time. The Residential Experience will be offering information sessions for students to learn more about the selection process the week of Feb. 27, and will also discuss the different types of communities available for students. This is a great time for students to come and talk through specific circumstances as well. Residential Experience has also launched additional off-campus resources for any student navigating off-campus living, with additional information being updated regularly. Please encourage your students to read their email, check the website, and attend one of the sessions offered!
