Re-energizing The Soul of OD
This month, we are featuring an article from one of our OD Network Members. Enjoy!
by Irv Rubin, Ph.D., Edited by Anita L. Lawless
My objective in this article is to build upon two foundational principles of transformational change, borrowed from another ‘helping and healing’ profession—health care. Namely: First do no harm and heal thy self.
As OD practitioners, let’s take an honest look in the mirror and ask ourselves, as a profession, two key questions: One, in what ways might we behave that could inadvertently cause harm resulting in unintended negative consequences to our clients and to ourselves? Two, where might we have to ‘heal ourselves’ as a pre-condition to facilitating the transformational change we seek?

OD Skills for the Future: Growing Our Practice as the World Changes
After 50 years the OD Network is still the place to connect with one another, grow together as practitioners, and create meaning and impact in our profession. In the coming years, we are working to provide professional certification as well. Certification has been a topic of importance for members of OD Network for a long time — and we are listening.
Certification will positively impact a practitioner’s professional development and performance, strengthen and grow our field of practice, and promote a global understanding of OD. Certification builds on and supplements the organization development education provided by all our OD Education Association members, and complements the body of skills and knowledge of the Global OD Practice Framework™.
ODN Europe: An International Partner
We are pleased to announce we have renewed our International Partner Agreement with ODN Europe through 2018. As International Partners, members of ODN Europe receive extended membership to our OD Network providing benefits including:
  • Greater understanding of trends and practices being advanced within the US/European markets
  • Virtual connections to OD practitioners in both the US/Europe
  • Our OD Network publications and mailings (and those produced by ODN Europe in the future)
  • Greater access to our OD Network membership directory
  • Member rate extended for attending OD Network’s annual conference and ODN Europe’s annual conference
In addition to these many benefits, we are also exploring future collaboration opportunities for joint online learning programs and potential international conferences.
Suzanne Padovani
According to Suzanne Padovani, Co-Chair of the ODN Europe Board (pictured at left), “Building on our partnership with the OD Network is a critical part of our mission to support organizations in becoming more effective and healthy through advancement of theory and practice of OD. Learning and sharing, we are stronger together!”
We look forward to many more years of partnership with ODN Europe. This unique business opportunity to connect and grow with additional OD professionals from Europe will help us all make a larger impact as one global OD in the future.
Voices of Growth from our Academic Partners
This month, aligned with the GROW element of the OD Networks value proposition, we asked submissions from a handful of students, alumni, and program directors of key Academic Partners of the OD Network. The intended outcome here is the start of dialogue on how members of our learning communities have come to value the Network along their educational journey entering the field of OD.
Member Spotlight: Sanjay Naik and Global Growth
Each month, Network News features a member of OD Network. This month’s spotlight features Sanjay Naik, Vice President – Emirates Airline & Group.
Calling all Talented OD Professionals
The Talent Connect Team is working to make your volunteering experience easier, and has developed a volunteer interest form to assist you in expressing your interests. This form is available on the Volunteer page of the OD Network website. Once you complete and submit your form, a Talent Connect Team member will contact you with more information about how to get you connected with the right committee.
  • We have an immediate need for someone who would like to write, edit, or help produce the OD Network News.
  • We also have an immediate need for volunteers to help with the self-assessment we are developing in conjunction with the Global OD Practice Framework™. Volunteers are specifically needed to help with user testing and developing the roll out of this exciting benefit.
If you are interested in these opportunities, or would like to help in other areas, please complete the volunteer interest form. We'd love to have your help!
