Money Management: Create a Finance Calendar |
A personal finance calendar is a schedule of your income, expenses, critical financial deadlines, and events. By using a personal finance calendar, you can plan for your financial goals, avoid missing payments or fees and track your progress over time. It’s one of the best tools available for managing your money.
Finance calendars can be especially useful when preparing for big expenditures, such as paying taxes or holiday shopping. For example, you can estimate how much you will owe in taxes and set aside money each month to avoid a large bill in April. You can also save up for holiday gifts and expenses by allocating a portion of your income to a separate account or envelope. This way, you can enjoy the festive season without going into debt or overspending.
To create a personal finance calendar, you can use a paper planner, a spreadsheet or an app. The key is to make it easy to access and update your calendar regularly. You should include the following information in your personal finance calendar:
|
- Your monthly income, including salary, bonuses, dividends, interest, etc.
-
Your fixed expenses, such as rent, mortgage, utilities, insurance, etc.
- Your variable expenses, such as groceries, entertainment, clothing, etc.
- Your savings and investment goals, such as retirement, emergency fund, vacation fund, etc.
- Your debt payments, such as credit cards, student loans, car loans, etc.
- Your financial deadlines and events, such as due dates for taxes, bills, birthdays, anniversaries, etc.
|
Once you have your personal finance calendar set up, you should review it at least once a month and make adjustments as needed. You should also compare it with your bank statements and receipts to make sure you’re on track with your budget. A personal finance calendar can help you stay organized and motivated when managing your money.
