Dazzling Dahlias
Monday, September 28, 4-5:30 pm for an Online Webinar or
Thursday, October 1, 2-3:30 pm or 4:30-6 pm for a Virtual Workshop
During our online webinar, learn everything there is to know about dahlias with Mara Tyler from the Farm at Oxford. Or register for our interactive online workshop, as Mara guides you through creating your own arrangements via a small virtual group. On Wednesday, September 30, those registered for the workshop can come to Longwood to pick up their flowers—a bucket brimming with beauties from the Farm at Oxford—to use during the online workshop.
Looking to add some flair to your fall floral arrangements? Join Renee Tucci online as she uses fresh and dried seasonal items to create textural fall designs that invite a touch-and-feel experience.
Join Tim Farrell online as he shares three techniques for using rustic wire (galvanized wire covered with ramie) as part of the visible design in a hand-tied bouquet, a low compote bowl, and as an extension of a vase.

Up until the 1960s, palms were the most important group of tropical plants missing from Longwood’s indoor displays, as Pierre S. du Pont had preferred temperate houses because they were less expensive to heat … but this all changed when the Palm House opened on Palm Sunday in 1966, featuring a spectacular landscape of 60 palms in all shapes and sizes. Today, guests love exploring this garden’s perimeter walkway to view an array of palms and cycads (prolific in the age of the dinosaurs, cycads are today considered living fossils) that flourish in this year-round tropical environment.

We're excited to share that 1906 is now open for prix fixe lunch and dinner on select days. Enjoy a prix fixe three-course lunch Thursday through Sunday from 11:30 am to 2 pm. On Friday and Saturday evenings, enjoy a prix fixe four-course dinner at 6 pm. Advance reservations required for both lunch and dinner.

September brings extra beauty to many areas of the Gardens. From late summer blooms in the Meadow Garden to our wondrous waterlilies in peak bloom to our Illuminated Fountain Performances dancing to the music on Friday and Saturday evenings, there has never been a better time to visit our Gardens.

I've been going to Longwood since my mother and grandmother would take us down from Norristown in the late 1970s, after Sunday church services. We'd wander around in our church clothes in the hot blazing sun of the summers. My fiancée, Tara, and I got engaged in front of the Christmas tree amongst the grapefruits in December 2014. We became Members in 2017 and enjoy going down to visit from our home in Hatfield. We love to escape to the history, beauty and serenity of the countryside. Each season brings an opportunity to experience something new. It's never the same place twice. Thanks for the memories!
