October’s Workshop Topic: Agilities with our guest, Ruby Rios!

What can I expect from the Career U Newsletter?
|
The Career U Newsletter hopes to give updates about the workshop programming along with serving as a resource hub for students regarding the college and career prep process. We plan to share information about workshops and events relating to Career U, UMKC campus and application updates, UMKC university scholarships, FAFSA, exploration opportunities happening across Kansas City.
|
We hosted workshops in September, October, and November. Students from all over the KC metro attended - in person and virtual! We had students from Wyandotte High School, Blue Springs High School, Crossroads Prepatory Academy, Platte County High School, Grain Valley High School, Washington High School, Oak Park High School, and a multitude of other high schools! Students got to explore different careers and majors, discover their Agilities, and learn about financial wellness. This next semester we will be holding one workshop in January and one in February. They will both be virtual due to weather that time of year and a higher demand for the virtual options! There will be multiple opportunities to come to campus through our Career Summit in April and our Career Camp in the summer. We look forward to engaging with you more in 2024!
|
January Workshop Registration |
The January workshop will take place only virtually on January 16th from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. The topic is College Decision. This workshop will cover the factors to consider as you decide where to attend for college as well as different in’s and out’s about the day in the life of a college student! Family and friends are welcome to attend.
|
If you are a senior student and attend 4 Career U workshops, you will have an automatic spot in the UMKC Professional Career Escalators Program upon being admitted and attending UMKC Fall 2024. A spot in the program comes with a $1500 tuition scholarship or a $2500 housing scholarship (dormitory only) that is renewable for up to 4 years!

Connor Davis, Program Manager |
Hi all!
My name is Connor Davis and I am the Program Manager for Career U! I attended Kansas State University and graduated with Bachelor’s Degrees in Life Sciences and Social Sciences in 2019. Immediately after graduation, I continued with graduate school at Kansas State to complete a Master’s Degree in Communication Studies.
I’m very passionate about holistic support and development for students and have been able to pursue this passion through the College Advising Corps and now at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. I love to help with the college going process and discuss other opportunities outside of the standard college plan. Please do not hesitate to reach out with questions or concerns, even if UMKC is not where you see yourself at this point in time!
I have two dogs, Maizie and Bean, and watch New Girl on repeat. When I’m not working, I love volunteering at KC Pet Project, running, or going to the public library!
