SEPTEMBER 21 - Rwanda English Project
Speakers - Southtowne Rotarians Don & Deborah Steely
The Rwanda English Project has expanded from 2 schools in 2016 to 25
schools in 2023, including teacher training colleges, government offices, and rehabilitation centers. We have a staff of 6 managers, 12 coaches and 30 instructors. In 2023-24, we will be conducting several research studies to further validate the program's efficacy and scaling up to include more teacher training colleges and primary schools. In addition, we have begun working with a similar program in India that serves about 50 schools.

Words of Thanks from McKinney-Vento
Thank you all so much for your generous donation of backpacks. You chose a stylish variety of large, sturdy backpacks, well-suited for our middle and high school students. Those are always needed and particularly useful at this time of year. We are grateful for your support as we strive to help our students with the necessities. Sincerely, Donna Butera and Yadira Flores McKinney-Vento Liaisons.

Recommended Reads from Jocelyn Bonner
In Benin's St. Camille center, vulnerable women with severe mental illness, like schizophrenia, find safety and care, often after facing sexual assault and abandonment due to societal stigma. Resources for mental healthcare in Africa are limited, exacerbated by superstitions and poverty.

|
Three women at St. Camille, Odette, Ajoke, and Abigail, share their stories of pregnancy, mental illness, and survival, highlighting the challenges they face in a society that often rejects and neglects them.
