Pre-Bike to Work Day Events
BTS will be hosting several events before May 16!
On Saturday, April 12 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, BTS will be hosting a Confident City Cycling course in partnership with WABA and Montgomery County Commuter Services. Confident City Cycling (CCC) courses have options for riders of any experience or skill level, and are designed to teach the techniques and knowledge critical to riding safely on city streets. The class will take place in the B-CC Rescue Squad parking lot, located at 5020 Battery Lane, in Bethesda.
The class is free to Capital Bikeshare members and "Walk-Ups," $5 for WABA Members, and $10 for the general public who registers in advance.
Stop by Veteran's Park on Thursday, May 1 or Thursday, May 8 for snacks, bike information, and to register for the main event - Bike to Work Day! Blackfinn will also be there with prizes and bottled water!

Walking Gets its DAYS in the Sun!
While May is all about biking, April is quickly becoming the month to start walking to work. And to lunch. And to the dry cleaner's. And, well, you get the picture.
There are two "holidays" this month that seek to encourage you to incorporate walking into your everyday life:
National Walking Day: Wednesday, April 2
National Walk@Lunch Day: Wednesday, April 30
Of course we know that walking is great exercise (think about getting into shape for Bike to Work Day!), but we at BTS think that walking is a better form of transportation than sitting alone in a car!
Here are some things you can do to walk more:
- Get some coworkers together and have a picnic in one of Bethesda's many green areas (click here for a map, courtesy of M-NCPPC Montgomery Parks)
- Walk down the Capital Crescent Trail
- Start with small daily step count goals; as you meet each goal, raise the bar
- See how much you can walk between National Walking Day and National Walk@Lunch Day
- Keep track of how far you walk with an app on your phone

Invite BTS to Your Office During Earth Week!
That's right, it's not just one day (April 22) anymore. The earth deserves an entire week, and BTS wants to come to your office to help you change to a more earth-friendly commute with a Commuter Information Day!
BTS Staff Members will come to your office or building lobby, set up a display with brochures and give-aways, including a drawing for a great gift basket, and personally answer your questions about carpooling, walking, biking, transit, and more!

Bethesda Parking Guide - For Those Who Must Drive
If you happen to be driving into Bethesda with friends, use the ParkMe Bethesda Parking Guide. Just decide where you would like to park (Perhaps near a Bethesda Circulator Stop) and it will show you a list of parking facilities, their rates, even whether they have spots available! If only they would help you find your car after you've parked it...
Commuter Survey Underway
Montgomery County Commuter Services and BTS work together to conduct the Commuter Survey. The Survey asks employees at selected businesses about their journeys to and from work. Information collected from the survey will be used in making decisions about transportation around the region.
Check with your Transit Benefits Coordinator to see if your company was selected, or click here and take a look at the drop down list. If you see your company listed, please complete the survey. |
