CSBS Student Success Center Statement on Bomb Threat to Black Cultural CenterOur undergraduate advising team in the CSBS Student Success Center finds it imperative to comment on Tuesday’s bomb threat targeting the Black Cultural Center at Ft Douglas. We are dedicated to showing up for and supporting the Black Cultural Center through this time, as they are a vital part in educating, inciting change, and strengthening important bonds within our community.
We want all students and especially our students of color to know you belong here as an essential part of our campus community and you deserve to feel safe here. The University, including our advising team, will continue to name these hateful incidents against our students of color as racist acts that are unequivocally wrong. We have committed to being educators, problem solvers, and advocates for the students we serve as you navigate through college and reach for your goals. However, we cannot truly do this for all students if we are not also advocating for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous People of Color) lives. Please find out more about our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives here.
It is just the start of the semester and already we are dealing with new Covid scares and targeted acts on our communities. This may leave us feeling overwhelmed and hopeless. In addition to the resources we have here at the U, if any of you just need someone to chat with about these incidents, we are here as your advisors, your allies, and your advocates. The invitation to process is open and will not expire. Not sure how to contact us? Then visit: https://csbs.utah.edu/advising/
Yours respectfully,
The undergraduate advising team in the CSBS Student Success Center

New COVID-19 Protocols on CampusCOVID-19 is still a threat on campus. The new Omicron variant, while potentially less deadly, is more highly transmissible. This means more people will be getting sick than before, even if the illness is not as severe. We are already seeing this reality appear as the number of confirmed cases has increased among our community—even as a fraction of people have been on campus during the winter break.
To keep cases manageable and keep campus operational, we all need to do our part. There are some rules to follow:
- Test weekly for COVID-19, even if asymptomatic.
- Get vaccinated against COVID-19 and get a booster when eligible.
- If you test positive, or are unvaccinated and exposed to COVID-19, follow the 5-5-5 rule.
- Wear a mask in accordance with the Salt Lake County health order.
