A NOTE FROM DR. MILLER
Students,
Saturday serves as the culmination of one of the most important traditions each fall on our campus—Military Appreciation Week. We highlight Clemson’s strong military heritage throughout the course of this week each November. It has taken on an even stronger presence this year with some timely awards that symbolize our desire to ensure Clemson remains a military-friendly institution for students, faculty and staff.
On Monday, we were named to the Military Times “Best for Vets: Colleges” list for the first time. This designation weighs student success metrics—such as retention and graduation—as well as military-specific resources and policies. On Tuesday, I attended our annual military appreciation brunch, where Clemson received two additional awards from the South Carolina Department of Veterans’ Affairs. We were recognized for military-friendly employment practices and military academic programming. While we are incredibly grateful for these recognitions and are especially proud of recent enhancements, we continue to strive for even more support of this unique community.
Clemson is a special place, in large part because of its military history and tradition of service. If you plan to attend the football game against Georgia Tech, stop by the Scroll of Honor Memorial to pause and reflect on the sacrifices of those who came before us. Visit Bowman Field before kickoff to see the military vehicles on display. And be sure to check out all the recognitions throughout the game as we honor service members, veterans and military-connected students. It serves as a fitting end to a week full of celebrations.
Patriotism—specifically, honoring our military heritage and commitment to duty and service—is one of our institutional values. At Clemson, we have more than 1,200 military-connected students, including service members, veterans and military dependents. The Office of Military & Veteran Engagement offers support from admissions through graduation … and beyond. Similarly, our partners in Army and Air Force ROTC play an active role in preparing the nation’s next generation of military leaders. These areas are critical in helping deliver the No. 1 student experience for our military community.
As we look ahead to Veterans Day and Military Appreciation Day on Saturday, I want to express my gratitude and admiration for all who currently serve or have served. Clemson is better because of you. Go Tigers!
Sincerely,
