ADVISING ADVICE
Elective Extravaganza!

Sure, you know about General Education categories, Major and Minor courses, and the Foreign Language requirement. But can you take courses just for fun? The answer is yes!
Consider 1 and 2-unit Degree Electives to round out your spring registration. Degree Electives are courses that are not required for any specific program. But they can help you explore interests related to your academic goals or add to your personal enrichment. They also count toward the 128 units needed for graduation! Download our flyer below for some Spring 2024 options.

RESOURCE HIGHLIGHT
Forging Faculty Connections

Meeting with faculty during office hours can sound a little scary. But when you need help in their classes or want to learn more about what they teach, office hours are the best times to chat with them! And did you know that faculty are required to offer office hours? That means these hours are meant for you!
Click the flyer below for tips on connecting with faculty.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

Mental Health Tips for Finals Season
With finals season just around the corner, stress levels are running high. Here are some helpful tips to emerge from finals season with your mental health intact.
Focus on your biological needs
  • Food, water, sleep: the big three. This stuff may seem obvious, but it’s easy to let it slip through the cracks when you’re stressed.
  • Move your body, get some sunlight, talk to someone.
  • Clean your space and keep up your hygiene.
Take study breaks
  • Research shows that breaks are essential for productive studying. Snacks, walks, power naps.
  • Take breaks from screens to prevent eye strain.
  • Leave your study space and change up the scenery.
  • Build breaks into your study routine with the Pomodoro Technique and Tracker.
Time management
Talk to someone
Treat yourself
  • Build yourself a finals care package, do yoga, and meet our therapy dog named BB at Dornsife FYE’s Thriving Through Your First Year event
  • Practice mindfulness with Mindful SC.
  • Reward yourself for your hard work, and set time aside to do something you love.
Finals can feel overwhelming, but by making intentional choices, you can manage stress and take care of your mental health while still achieving your academic goals.

Dornsife First-Year Advising wishes you good luck on finals! You got this!
