Three reasons to attend our Annual Employer Training
Spring is the season of renewal. That makes it an excellent time to recharge your TRSL reporting skills at our Annual Employer Training in March. There are dozens of reasons for you to attend. We’ll focus on the top three.
1. Convenience. You can join us in person or virtually. Grab a seat at our Baton Rouge office or kick back in your own. Either way, you’ll be set up so you won’t miss a minute of training.
2. Customization. You’ll get a training session tailored for your employer group: K-12/Charters, Higher Education, and State Agencies.
3. Comprehensiveness. You don’t have to be the new employee on the block to benefit from our training. Our sessions are packed with tips, resources and information valuable to new hires as well as seasoned veterans.
Head’s up: In-person space is limited, so reserve your spot now. There are no space limitations if attending virtually.

Important TRSL reporting reminders
We have several important reminders about reporting that must be completed soon or on a regular basis.
Deadline approaching soon:
Fiscal Year 2021 Corrections: The deadline for making corrections to Fiscal Year 2021 without incurring charges for actuarial costs is June 30, 2024. Records that require employer certifications/corrections are identified on your Questionable Years Report. If you need help researching questionable years data, please reach out to Sharon Lachney.
Reminders about regular reporting:
Correction Reports: After you submit your monthly salary/contributions files, don’t forget to check for contribution exceptions or salary rejections that require corrections. Just go to the Employer Contribution Changes screen in EMIS to see if there’s any action you need to take. For more information on correcting current fiscal year reporting, please review Employer Manual Index 4.0.
Address Changes: Help us keep member information current. If an employee changes a home address with you, please update the address in EMIS. As long as you have “home address change” permission rights in Employer Contacts, you can easily update our system with the most current address information. Need to get home address update permission added to your TRSL access rights? Complete and submit an updated Form 1. We also encourage you to prompt teachers to register for Member Access to verify the accuracy of their information.

A crash course on submitting Annual Sick Leave Data files
In the November issue of The Key, we tackled frequently asked questions about sick leave. In this issue, we’ll detail the employee information you’ll need to submit sick leave.
Why is this important? The timely submission of sick leave information ensures members receive accurate retirement benefits. Late submissions can result in adjustments to members’ retirement amounts.
A quick reminder: Sick leave files should contain the number of sick leave days used by each employee. The best practice is to submit the file at the end of each fiscal year (July 1 – June 30), but files can be submitted for any prior fiscal year.
Sick leave basics: You’ll need a few details on each employee.

Still have questions? Contact us at support@trsl.org if you’re having technical issues with submitting files. For general questions, contact your TRSL liaison.

Friendly reminder: Handwritten signatures are required on TRSL forms
At TRSL, members can email, fax or message us online, but they still need to grab an ink pen before submitting a form. That’s because TRSL requires handwritten signatures on all forms.
Please remind members to sign with an ink pen where indicated on forms. Forms submitted with electronic signatures must be rejected, which results in processing delays.
If members do not have access to a printer, they can contact us at 225-925-6446 or toll free at 1-877-275-8775. We’ll put the needed form in the mail to them.

Meet our staff
In the last issue, we started introducing you to our talented Employer Services Department (ESD) employees. We want you to meet the people who work with you and for you every day.
This month, we’re spotlighting Jessica Trosclair. At TRSL, Jessica is known as the return-to-work guru. We’ve yet to stump her with a RTW question. Jessica recently expanded her job duties to include the ORP program.
Meet Jessica
- Tenure at TRSL: 13 years.
- Tenure with the Employer Services Department (ESD): February will make 9 years.
- Job duties: I oversee the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP) program and Return-to-Work (RTW) program.
- Jessica's favorite part of the job (she couldn't pick just one):
- The best part is, by far, the people. With the nature of our department being employer-focused, we’re able to build solid working relationships with staff within each individual agency, which lends to a really collaborative, productive environment. I’ve formed great connections over the years, and it’s always nice to actually “know” the person(s) on the other end of the phone or email, or in the audience of my webinars and presentations.
- It keeps me on my toes! I love brainteasers and am always seeking out new information and challenges. I also find that I thrive in a little chaos or when under pressure. Needless to say, ORP and RTW are the perfect playground for me. I’m certainly never bored!
- A fun fact about Jessica: My favorite food group is cheese. If I were stranded on a deserted island, the three things I couldn’t live without would be my Kindle, a baseball hat, and a decent pillow.
