WHS PTSA Golden Apple Awards!

Congratulations to Math Teacher Scot Millhollen, Social Studies Teacher Olivia Doerr, and Visual Art Teacher Matt Fry who were presented with "Golden Apple" awards from WHS PTSA on Thursday, June 13 at the Moving Up Assembly.

WHS PTSA representative Kim Norris shared, "I am excited to present the 2024 Woodinville High School PTSA’s Outstanding Educator Award. This award recognizes teachers who make significant contributions and enhance the education of students at WHS. We received nominations for close to 70 teachers—which is amazing and highlights the many fantastic teachers here at Woodinville High School. We would like to thank you all for the countless hours you spend preparing, teaching, and making a difference in the lives of our students.

*Due to the number of teachers nominated and the amazing feedback that we received, we have chosen to award three amazing educators this year*

Our first Outstanding Teacher award winner makes students and other teachers feel valued. He has an unlimited amount of energy for teaching and for students. He takes on multiple preps and a heavy workload to help the department and other school programs. He is an experienced teacher but continues to look for new ways to elevate his students to the next level and has created a “thinking classroom” in the math department. He challenges students to take ownership for their own learning, which makes him exceptional. Scot Millhollen, please accept your award and our appreciation for all you do to challenge and enrich the lives of so many students here at WHS!

Our second Outstanding Educator award recipient is a go-getter. She's never afraid to back down from a challenge. On top of that, she's in it for all the right reasons. She's genuinely involved with and cares about student success. She shows up every day and contributes to the betterment of our school. She's an all-star. She is passionate about her subject matter – HISTORY - and cares deeply about teaching. She's always willing to break the ice with a cringy dad joke, which makes everyone feel welcome. Ms. Doerr, we appreciate you and congratulate you as one of our Golden Apple Award winners. Thank you, so much for all that you have contributed to WHS!

Our third and final Outstanding Educator has a remarkable ability to tap into his students' passions and interests, fostering an environment where they can thrive and achieve their full potential. His commitment to their success is evident in the individualized attention he provides and the extra effort he invests in their academic and personal growth. He is a dedicated and inspiring teacher who excels in engaging with Art students, consistently going above and beyond. He shines a light on the importance and value of each student’s individual voice and hand in the art-making process – and he’s also an amazing artist himself! Mr. Fry, our school would not shine as brightly without you. Congratulations on this award.

Woodinville High School PTSA congratulates Mr. Milhollen, Ms. Doerr, Mr. Fry, and all the exceptional teachers at WHS. We also extend our warmest congratulations to Terri Kashi, who has been recognized for her tireless service to our school and has earned the well-deserved title as our 2024 Golden Acorn Award winner. Our school motto, “One Falcon, One Family,” truly reflects the spirit of our community, and we are grateful for the contributions of our students, parents, teachers, and staff in making our school feel like a family."
The awards were determined with input from WHS students and staff. Thank you to the WHS PTSA for your efforts and support!
