Stopping Losses from Voice Fraud

Earlier this year, we announced a partnership with XConnect, a provider of world-class numbering intelligence solutions. This partnership gives Protector customers the option of leveraging XConnect’s dynamic database of unallocated numbers to help identify fraudulent usage more quickly and effectively.  To learn more about how this data can help your company in the fight against fraud, read this recent XConnect article.
During the first year he was part of the Equinox community, Brent Hartigan directly helped shape the Protector rollout at his company, began using TeleLink, and also made his inaugural visit to Music City USA so he could participate in the Protector User Group Meeting.
The ‘Customer Spotlight’ is our favorite part of the newsletters. Not only do we get to interview and learn fascinating facts about our customers, but we also have the privilege of relaying those stories to the entire Equinox community. We’re honored to introduce and shine the latest customer spotlight on Brent Hartigan

We got acquainted with Brent as part of his company’s Protector implementation and TeleLink adoption in April 2018. Not only did he join the Equinox community at that time, but Brent also attended the Protector User Group Meeting (PUGM) and made his first-ever trek to Nashville the same year. He recapped his experience by saying, “Amy and Christi were very welcoming, and all the users were even more friendly than I expected. The best part of the conference was the training and case studies that I applied to my work in Protector right away. Adam Panagia presented a fantastic visual history of telecom fraud. Finally, networking is a key and long-lasting benefit of the user group…I currently consult with several other PUGM attendees on telecom issues.”

Brent has spent the last 19 of his 21-year telecom career at his current company. As their Manager, Data Center Support/Physical Securities, Brent is tasked with 24X7 monitoring, including access and control to the facilities. He takes a hands-on approach to toll fraud detection and customer response. Protector’s 24X7 onsite monitoring is one of the many tools in his arsenal that he and his team leverage to protect the network. The system’s alerts allow them to respond and investigate quickly, including putting blocks in place when warranted. According to Brent, the dashboards are Protector’s greatest asset, and he regularly checks them to get a clear and concise picture of traffic trends or anomalies.

In addition to overseeing the fraud team, Brent directly interacts and liaises with the company’s toll fraud vendor. He explains that “Quality of service truly sets Equinox apart from other vendors! Although Equinox is the leading, if not largest FMS supplier in the industry, their support and response level is like that of a local, family-owned business—it’s very personal, top notch.” Beyond his work with Protector, Brent also leverages the TeleLink platform to create and analyze to/from reports for issues outside the scope of fraud. He describes the ease and flexibility of reporting as one of TeleLink’s best feature.

Born in New York, Brent moved to Vermont and still resides there with his two very demanding cats. He loves being close to his family. In his free time, Brent enjoys getting together with friends for meals, movies, tabletop games, and cards. During the pandemic, he’s creatively adapted these pastimes and immersed himself in more reading and added a bit of online gaming.

Brent is an awesome addition to the Equinox family! We are honored to know and work with him and appreciate the insight he brings to the entire user community.
