I hope all of you are doing well during this back to school season. As our students in virtual school are scheduled to begin their learnings later today on September 22nd, I wanted to share some information for those of you who may be experiencing difficulties.

If your child is in elementary school and has successfully logged into Brightspace but do not see any classes, we are still working very hard to assign a teacher to your child’s class. We know that this will be a disappointment for some and is not how we had hoped to begin the school year. Please let me assure you that efforts to hire more teachers have been ongoing and staff have been working around the clock and through the weekend to keep things moving forward. You will be notified as soon as your child’s class has been assigned a teacher. As of the afternoon of September 21st, there were still 500 outstanding teaching positions that were unfilled, or awaiting acceptance by the preferred candidate. Our HR staff confirmed that we filled an additional 300 positions in the evening of the 21st, and they are hopeful that all positions will be filled by Wednesday Sept 23rd. Please visit the TDSB Elementary Virtual School website on Tuesday morning to access a new section called ‘Asynchronous Learning Activities’ where activities connected to the Ontario curriculum will be listed by grade level for students to complete at their own pace. Additionally, you will find information about live sessions planned for students to participate in this week to help get them oriented to this new mode of learning. Additionally, live sessions have been set up with teachers from Kindergarten to Grade 8 so that all students have an opportunity to connect and join a live, online session on their first day of school.
If your child is in secondary school and has successfully logged into Brightspace/Google Classroom but do not see any classes, please contact the virtual school with the contact information below for support.
