What's happening in the TfT community.
What's happening in the TfT community.

Recently, CACE director Tim Van Soelen encouraged me to choose language that does not define, or reinforce, these days as “COVID days.” In essence, he was reminding me that COVID-19 is a competing story that threats my ability to see the Story.

Perhaps you are like me: in the midst of forced change and constant pandemic news, you are at risk of misplacing God’s Story. Perhaps, your students are also at risk of having competing stories define this chapter of their lives.

Whereas reflection has always been an important practice in TfT classrooms, I encourage you to take every opportunity to connect students’ learning and lives to God’s story.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this Bulletin. Please continue to reach out to me (darryl.deboer@cace.org) with your TfT stories and resources as we hope to encourage, inspire, and connect our family of TfT schools. We are grateful to hear how valuable the TfT Bulletin has become to Christian educators.

With deep appreciation and admiration for the Kingdom work you do,
Darryl DeBoer

We invite our TfT schools to personalize this publication for your school, adding your own photos, contact information, etc. If you are interested, please contact CACE's Associate Marketing Director Rob Haan to begin this process.

Justice Seeking Throughline: A Resource for Parents

This document from Prairie Center of Christian Education resource explores the Justice Seeking throughline. It is designed to provide parents enough background information around Justice Seeking so  opportunities can be discussed at home. It is a great resource for teachers as well.

A Reflection Resource: See the Story

Many of our TfT schools have participated in online CACE-facilitated professional development sessions aimed to equip teachers to invite students to "see the story" as they wrap their school year. As a result of a CACE session, these reflection questions were adapted by teachers Peter Welle and Thor Benson and shared with their colleagues at Southwest Christian.

Secondary TfT: Western Michigan Christian

Robin Tyink's AP Language and Composition class participate in TED Tuesday. Tyink and her students watch a wide variety of TED Talks; they analyze the arguments and the rhetorical strategies in each one. The Throughline Justice Seeker proved an apt lens for viewing these talks. While discussing the talk "What Comes After Tragedy? Forgiveness," students explored what it means to "act justly" and "love mercy". See examples of her student's reflections.

Secondary TfT: Minnehaha Academy
Band director Ryan Larson of the Minnehaha Academy Upper School in Minneapolis, MN is empowering his students to live into their roles in God's Story through the "New Creation" Project. Ryan's deep hope and storyline serve as the foundation for this FLEx that is available to students even in this virtual learning environment: "My deep hope is that we will reflect God, create beauty, and express our whole selves as we play in the New Creation together."
