The new year is upon us and as we move together into 2024, I confidently welcome whatever the future may bring for our growing and thriving community. It’s a fresh start, an opportunity for the City to advance its focus and work to enhance livability, equity and inclusion, innovation, sustainability and resilience, and to build community trust and relationships.
We’ll do this with the introduction of new initiatives and by continuing our many projects already underway such as ongoing development of our Comprehensive Plan, improving our entire public safety ecosystem, advancing climate action and addressing the homelessness crisis.

The Latest from City Hall

We’re monitoring, researching and planning how to resolve the challenge of PFAS, also known as “forever chemicals,” in our water supply. Our extensive water system has 40 wells located at nine wellfields across our community. Our most recent test for PFAS showed that one separate sample exceeded the State Action Level for PFAS contaminants at one of the City’s nine wellfields, Water Station 14.

City adopts 20-year roadmap for transportation
|
This week, Vancouver City Council adopted our 2024-44 Transportation System Plan. Over the last three years, hundreds of neighbors, businesses and community organizations have provided input on what is and isn’t working when it comes to Vancouver’s network of streets, sidewalks, bike routes and trails. Thank you! This plan is driven by your feedback and provides us with a roadmap for how we’ll invest in a transportation system that is safe, climate-friendly and equitable for all – no matter how you move around the Couve.

Our Vancouver: Our opportunity to expand housing options for all
|
Housing, especially affordable housing, is a top priority for the City and our community.
For many, a stable home is a paycheck-to-paycheck endeavor. When community member Titania experienced medical issues and had to quit her job, she risked losing the “dream” apartment that she and her daughter felt safe in and could afford. Read her full story.
As part of Vancouver’s next comprehensive plan, Our Vancouver, we have an exciting opportunity to shape our future growth and development, including how we support needed housing for the entire community.
We want to learn more about your neighborhood, future housing needs, and community health and well-being. Take the Our Vancouver Community Survey now until Feb. 16 to share your thoughts and help shape Vancouver's future.

Help shape the future of policing in Vancouver
|
We’re now seeking applicants to join our new Police Advisory Committee in 2024. Committee members will assist the City with identifying community safety needs, gaps in services and ways to improve policing and public safety. We’d love to hear from new voices who have never been involved in City government or law enforcement. And we plan to compensate each volunteer for their time and talent.
