Behind the Scenes: Planning the 2016 OD Network Annual Conference

The OD Network | IODA annual conference in Portland last year was a long-overdue re-connection to the OD Network and community for me. My experiences at the conference, as was true for the overwhelming majority of attendees, were powerful and enriching. Those positive experiences guaranteed that another multi-year hiatus would never again occur. So touched was I by the entire experience that saying “Yes!!” to the offer to join the 2016 OD Network Conference Planning Committee was, with spontaneous gratitude, easy - a process that began before the glow of Portland even began to fade.
Here was my chance to give back and be of some service. My specific task force was called the “Tacticians.” Along with three colleagues and a host of OD folks across the globe, our job was to immerse ourselves in the several-hundred session proposals received and select the precious few that we will all enjoy this October in Atlanta. I had no idea how much my trying to ‘give back’ was going to bring me.
I apologize in advance for the woefully inadequate snapshot which follows. As they say, “You had to be there!”…and maybe some of you will be inspired to do so in the future.

Member Spotlight: Lori Blander
| |
| Lori Blander is the president and principal consultant of The Blander Group, an organizational development firm based in Baltimore, Maryland, and a current member of the OD Network Board of Trustees. She has spent most of her almost 20-year career consulting internally but made the switch to the external world in October 2015. Lori works everyday to increase the capabilities of organizations and people through the many lessons she has learned through her experiences, schooling and the many wonderful practitioners and influential people she has met along the way.

Reflections of a First-Time Conference Attendee

The Organization Development Network (OD Network) and the International Organization Development Association (IODA) are both associations that support practitioners and students in Organization Development (OD). They both work in fostering shared knowledge of best OD practices, networking between members and facilitating change in organizations and communities across the globe. Membership to OD Network is one of the perks enjoyed in my program at Alliant International University. I attended the OD Network | IODA annual conference in Portland, Oregon as a graduate student at the Fresno Campus of Alliant International University. Although I have attended several conferences, this was my first OD conference and I felt highly optimistic and looked forward to learning so much. To me, this conference was a pleasant change in direction and substance in contrast to the other ones that I had previously attended.

The OD Network is proud of the nearly 1,000 graduate and doctoral student members in our Network, most of which hail from the 10 premier research institutions that comprise our OD Education Association (ODEA). Our ODEA committee is seeking 2-3 volunteers to help expand the services we offer these top-notch OD programs. We are looking for ODEA school ambassadors to work with world-class program directors in welcoming their students into the OD Network. Volunteers are needed with leadership experience as well as general committee members (no experience necessary).

New Welcome Group Program Cohorts Announced
| |
| The OD Network has designed a new member-engagement program for 2016, the Welcome Group Program, in which small groups of new and student members gather for approximately 3-4 hours over two virtual sessions to build relationships, discover the OD Network, learn about member benefits and create peer-accountable action plans for getting the most from the OD Network. We are now enrolling our July and August cohorts. Space is limited.
