The St. George Island Tour of Homes will be held Feb. 11, 2017. The tour features distinctive homes from beach to bay. The event is sponsored by the St. George Lighthouse Association. A kick-off event will be held on Friday, February 10 from 6-8 pm at the St. George Island Fire Station on Pine Street.

| Panhandle Players Present The Time of Your Life Feb. 10-11
The Panhandle Players of the Forgotten Coast will present The Time of Your Life, by William Saroyan, at the historic Chapman Auditorium in Apalachicola, Feb. 10 and 11. The Time of Your Life depicts a group of alienated loners looking for love and meaning in their lives. Much of the action of the play centers around Joe, a young loafer with money who encourages each of the bar's patrons in their eccentricities.

| Carrabelle History Museum Hosts Forgotten Coast Film Festival
The Carrabelle History Museum continues its series of movies filmed around Carrabelle and the Forgotten Coast area. The series will continue in February with “Forgotten Coast: Return to Wild Florida” on Thursday, February 16, 6 pm. Then, Thursday, February 23, 6 pm, join us for “Coastlines”. The final film, on Thursday, March 16, 6 pm, will be “Apalachicola River: An American Treasure”, about the Apalachicola River basin.

Feb. 25 in Apalach
Join the Franklin County Mardi Gras Festivities on February 25 as the Franklin County Habitat for Humanity hosts its annual Mardi Gras benefit celebration in Apalachicola. The group will host a Mardi Gras Dinner and Ball on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 6:30 pm.The featured entertainment this year will be Big Daddy and Red Hot Java.

| African American History Festival
Feb. 17-19
H’COLA’s 14th Annual African-American History Festival will be held Feb. 17-19, 2017. This event is a celebration of African-American history, life, music and culture. This outdoor, family-oriented event is filled with varied artists and entertainers, children’s activities, arts, history, education, health & wellness and more. There will be live entertainment throughout the two day event. Admission is always free. The event is held in Apalachicola at Franklin Square 6th Street between Avenues L&M. | Eastpoint Visitor Center Exhibits African American Art Collection in February
A collection of African American art will be on display during February at the Eastpoint Visitor Center. The visitory center, which is also the administrative office of the Franklin County Tourist Develoment Council will host an opening reception of the exhibit on Feb. 4 from 3-5 pm.
Art by John Biggers, Gwendolyn Knight, Lois Mailou Jones, Andew Turner, James Chichester and Quinton Johnston will be on display.

| St. George Light Full Moon Climb Feb. 10
Watch the sun set and full moon rise from the top of the Cape St. George Lighthouse on Wednesday, February 10 from 6-7:30 pm. Tickets are $15.00 per person, or $10.00 for St. George Lighthouse Association members, and include light hors d'oeuvres and a sparkling cider toast to the Full Moon.

| Carrabelle Area Nature Excursions and Lectures Promote Area Resources
Spring is just around the corner and there are several nature lectures and fun outdoor activities around the Carrabelle area designed to educate and inform you of the area’s vast resources. On Feb. 9, Florida State University Coastal and Marine Laboratory will host a lecture on Florida’s Springs. Experts will discuss the current status of some of Florida’s springs and what is being done to protect and preserve these natural treasures for future generations. On Feb. 18, sign up to Explore the Black Backwater of Tate’s Hell Swamp. A certified green guide will lead a four mile canoe/kayak trip into Tate’s Hell to experience the sights smells, and sounds of the forest. On March 11, you can explore the tracks, signs and critters of the Forgotten Coast on this Spring Beach Exploration. Led by a certified green guide, you’ll walk the beaches of the Alligator Point area beaches and discover the diversity of life that can be found hidden under your feet and in the water at low tide. Learn about the Panhandle’s bogs and wetlands on March 16 during a lecture at the FSU Coastal and Marine Laboratory. Noted experts will discuss the local wetlands of Florida's Panhandle and how current issues are shaping its biodiversity. On March 30, take a driving and hiking excursion into Tate’s Hell with a certified green guide and enjoy an off-trail bush whack hike to a savanna to see what's flowering. On April 6, the FSU Coastal & Marine Lab will host “Translating the Language of Life” lecture to highlight how organisms do what they do based on chemical cues and how this chemical cross-talk among marine species can provide new and powerful options for curing degradation in marine systems. Enjoy an Open House event at the FSU Coastal and Marine Laboratory on April 22, The event will feature interactive displays. On April 29, you can join a certified green guide for a four mile canoe/kayak trip into the Tate’s Hell Swamp to experience the sights, smells and sounds of the most bio-diverse ecosystem in the world. This Spring Tour will explore the Spring blooms of Tate's Hell.

| Carrabelle Hosts Civil War Program Feb. 4
The Carrabelle History Museum will host the first in a series of lectures and presentations about local Civil War history on Saturday, February 4 from 10-1pm in downtown Carrabelle. The lecture, titled “The Civil War: Through their Eyes” will feature stories of the Civil War in the Florida Panhandle from a personal perspective as told by Tristan Harrenstein of the Florida Public Archaeology Network and Michael Kinnett of the Orman House Museum and author of “Apalachicola Pearl”. The Civil War lecture series is part of the Museum's Look, Listen & Learn Program. A second Civil War presentation is scheduled for May 20.

The Apalachicola Bay Chamber of Commerce will host the 21st Annual Forgotten Coast Chef Sampler on Sunday, February 12, 2017, from 6:00-9:00 pm. Chef’s from all over the Forgotten Coast will prepare their most creative dishes at the historic Fort Coombs Armory located on 4th Street and Avenue D in Apalachicola. Sample an array from our area restaurants. Talented shopkeepers and local designers give the event an extraordinary touch and add creative flair by decorating each table individually. | HCA Hosts Workshop Featuring Classical Art with a Digital Twist
Peter and Licia Berry, classically-trained artists will combine classical art with 3-dimensional digital technology in a series of workshops beginning in March. The couple will be exhibiting their works, demonstrating techniques in workshops and providing lectures in Apalachicola from March 1 through March 6. | Ilse Newell February Concerts Celebrate African American History Month
The Ilse Newell Fund for the Performing Arts Inconcert series continues this month with a impressive lineup of jazz and classical concerts in Apalachicola and Carrabelle. Several of the concerts in February pay tribute to African American History Month. Click here to see the entire schedule of concerts.
Unless otherwise noted, the jazz/pop concerts will be held at Rio Carrabelle on Friday nights beginning at 7:30 pm. Unless otherwise noted, the classical concerts are held at Trinity Church in Apalachicola on Sunday afternoons beginning at 4pm.
