The Washington County Leaders Association (WCLA) and the Food Stand Committee have been informed by the State 4-H office that the WI Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (datcp.wi.gov) has a state regulation regarding the Food Stand at Fair. It states that every food stand that is operated for 4 or more consecutive days must have at least one staff member or volunteer present (the time the food stand is open) with a minimum of SERVSAFE Food Handler certification to ensure safe food handling practices are followed.
This is accomplished by completing a basic, short, online course: SERVSAFE Food Handler certification. The WCLA and Food Stand Committee are looking for people who might be interested in obtaining this certification. This is a fantastic educational opportunity to learn what goes into running a safe food operation, and the resulting ServSafe Food Handler certification is good for three years!
The online training takes about two hours to complete and costs $15, which the Washington County Leaders Association will fully reimburse. A receipt should be emailed to you when you register and take the online course. You can complete the course on your own anytime at ServSafe.com or join our group session on July 6 at 1:00 PM at the MPTC campus/4-H office (just bring your laptop). You then would have your choice of hours at the food stand that aligns with your personal schedule.
If you want to learn more and help us meet this safety requirement, please reach out to a committee member by June 30: Agnes Wagner (wagneragnes816@gmail.com), Sharon Kiselicka (skiselicka@hotmail.com), or Mariann Gundrum (lmacres@charter.net). Thank you for considering giving your "Hands to Larger Service" to our county!
