Many of our students and faculty have been away from campus for the summer, but these months have been anything but boring!
In addition to the great student, faculty, and alumni activities you’ll see below, we also celebrated and honored two people who have dedicated decades to supporting the arts. We honored Rudy Alexander by adding his name to the Wright Auditorium Green Room, and remembered the late Charles Stephen Alford with the dedication of a rehearsal room at Fletcher Music Center.
Scholarships are being set up in both Rudy and Charles’ names, to benefit our music students as they learn and grow in their passions while at ECU. We are grateful for this support for the musical arts, and for our students.
I look forward to welcoming everyone back to campus very soon, and wish you a wonderful end of summer!

| Students sail through internships |
Many CFAC students are out and about in the world this summer with internships. For example, Abria Kornegay, a rising media studies senior in the School of Communication, has a marketing and communications internship this summer at PSA Airlines (owned by American Airlines) in Charlotte.

| Welcoming new, returning faculty |
We look forward to welcoming new faculty to CFAC this fall, including Dr. Yena Lee, who will teach violin in the School of Music.

Exciting global opportunities |
Tansy OBryant ’26, who graduated with her MFA in Art, focused on ceramics, was accepted into a six-month artist residency at the International Ceramic Research Center in Guldagergaard, Denmark. Artists gather from across the globe at the center, and this marks a great accomplishment.

The Science of Song: Voice and vocal pedagogy professors Dr. Jami Rhodes-Galloway and Nicole Franklin are back for the second year with a workshop that offers instruction grounded in voice science, helping voice teachers and choral conductors better understand the vocal instrument, expand their diagnostic skills, and learn tools they can use with singers in their classrooms and studios.

You've Got a Friend: School of Music tuba instructor Scott Sutherland plays on the soundtrack of the latest in the "Toy Story" franchise films, which opened in theaters on June 19. And this isn't his first rodeo!

|
Exploring Creativity: Two incoming ECU freshman passed around sample posters in alum Joshua Vaughn’s poster design class, with 55 other high school students who created and explored the visual arts during this year’s Summer Art and Design Camp. Held the week of June 14 at Jenkins Fine Arts Center, students participated in workshops with School of Art and Design faculty and other professional instructors, like Vaughn.
