Longwood Reimagined Update
Everywhere you turn there is hustle and bustle as we continue to work toward the grand debut of Longwood Reimagined in November. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at some of the exciting additions in our West Conservatory that we can’t wait to share with you!
This exuberant garden highlighting plants from the Mediterranean region is designed as islands of plantings surrounded by water, so we were particularly excited last week to fill our interior water features! We have planted 3,500 permanent plants representing 60 taxa with more seasonal plantings, including an array of stunning hanging baskets, joining the sweeping landscape later this fall just in time for our Member previews (November 3–17).
Back in 2022, we shared that we had begun training four Buddha’s hands (Citrus medica var. sarcodactylus) and six Kumquat (Citrus fukushu) to be grown in the espalier style in the West Conservatory. Those plants were delivered to their new home last week and have already made a few pollinator friends!
Another highlight from our West Conservatory is the allée of 27 Willow Wattle (Acacia salicina) that line the north walkway. Just coming into bloom now, this variety is different than the acacia found in our Orangery, but equally stunning! The diminutive yellow—and wonderfully fragrant-—blooms last into early winter, so prepare to be wowed!
We can’t wait to show off this amazing new garden experience later this fall. If you have not signed up for our Member previews to get a sneak peek before the public debut, reservations are still available.
