Weekly on Tuesdays from 9:30 am - 12:30 pm
Biweekly on Tuesdays from 9:30 am - 12:30 pm
Weekly on Wednesdays from 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

Flower Piano Pause

While the Botanical Garden Green Teams are busy preparing for Flower Piano, we are also preparing for a Green Team pause around the event. From September 4 - 15, Botanical Garden Green Teams will not be meeting with Recreation and Parks Department staff and this is reflected on the schedule.

Nursery Staffing News

We have a very exciting update from the Recreation and Parks Department. We recently welcomed Eli Feldman as our new Nursery Specialist. Eli will be the primary lead in producing plants for the outdoor collection across the Gardens of Golden Gate Park and the day-to-day operations of the new nursery facility at the Botanical Garden. Please give Eli a warm welcome when you see him at the Gardens!

Saturday Service Groups

Have you thought about joining a Green Team but the weekday schedule doesn't work for you? Well, we offer monthly Saturday Recreation and Parks Department hosted service opportunities. If you would like to join one of the upcoming sessions, register below. This is a great way to also invite friends or family to join you since there are 15 spots for each group

Slices of Joy

  • Staff and volunteers from Gardens of Golden Gate Park joined the Outside Lands music festival again this year in their non-profit partner space, The Mission. This year the theme was Violence Prevention and Yale Environmental Fellow Xochyl Perez developed an activity centered around thoughtful questions for visitors at the intersection of Violence Prevention x Green Spaces. In addition, we handed out seeds donated by Renee's Gardens and shared the Conservatory's Phil the Philodendron with the public. It was an exciting prelude to Flower Piano next month. Thank you to everyone who stopped by and helped out! If you would like to catch a glimpse of the weekend, click here

  • We wrapped up another beautiful Garden Camp summer at the Gardens - and have already started hosting After School and Extended Care this fall!

  • This past month, the Collections and Conservation team was busy supporting the work of researchers from around the world. With colleagues from the herbarium at Cal Academy, Tory collected samples of Cleyera to send to Japan for a study on the taxonomy and phylogeny of the genus. In addition, that same week, samples were collected of Northern California black walnut (Juglans hindsii) to include in a study on hybridization in the genus and conservation action planning for the species being done at The Huntington in San Marino, CA.

  • On August 1, we were excited to welcome San Francisco's first ever Drag Laureate D'Arcy Drollinger for a film shoot at the Botanical Garden. Filming was throughout the Botanical Garden, including shots in New Zealand, Moon Viewing Garden, and Andean Cloud Forest.

We're preparing for our first Gardens of Golden Gate Park Interpretive Volunteer Training and while we have begun reviewing applications to join our October cohort, we are still reviewing applications on a rolling basis. If you missed our initial deadline and are still interested in joining the October cohort, please complete the application here
Best wishes,
Crystal
