Proceeds Will Support the Moses Roper Exhibit Project

Proceeds from the auction will aid the development of Apalachicola Main Street’s exhibit project dedicated to Moses Roper (1815-1891), who was once a north Florida slave but went on to become a prominent author and lecturer who dedicated his life to abolition. After a daring escape in 1834, Roper travelled 500 miles on foot (click here to read more).

Supported in part by generous grants from

Moses Roper Exhibit Sponsors

We need your support to fund the costs associated with intensive historical research, writing, exhibit design, and project coordination that are essential in order to implement this project.
One innovative facet of our current research is digitally mapping Roper’s life events to the physical landscape based on the descriptions provided in his narrative paired with period maps and a variety of historical records spanning several states.

Thank you to Weems Memorial Hospital, a new Premier level exhibit sponsor!
If you are interested in sponsoring this exhibit, please contact us for more information.

Beautification Project at the Raney House

Each quarter, our Design Committee selects a downtown location that could benefit from a little extra attention. Recently Main Street volunteers came together to spruce up the outside of The Raney House Museum. In addition to removing yard waste, volunteers cleared and removed debris along the sidewalk and curb areas and pressure washed the concrete wall and parking area.
The Raney House is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 AM - 4 PM. Admission is free but donations are appreciated.
Our spring event included a beautification project on Avenue D and litter pickup at the Scipio Creek Boat Basin and Franklin Square. Please stay tuned for our next beautification event. We provide all necessary tools as well as masks and gloves, and we ensure that safe distancing guidelines are followed. Do you have project ideas or want to join in? Let us know!

In support of the extensive local artist community, the Apalachicola Center for History, Culture, & Art has created the S.O.L.A. (Support our Local Artists) Exhibit. The year 2020 has had an incredibly negative impact in the art world, and this is a way of supporting  artists of North Florida with a “pop-up” exhibit showcasing local and regional artists.
The gallery is open Tuesday-Saturday 11am-5pm. A video of the artwork will coincide with the exhibit, providing the ability to purchase artwork remotely.
