Meet Your Online Instructor: Dr. Zhou (Joe) Yu

Dr. Zhou (Joe) Yu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family and Consumer Studies, where he studies topics at the intersection between housing and immigration, including homeownership and housing markets in China, as well as the experience of immigrants as they adjust to U.S. culture. He is currently teaching FCS 3430 (Housing Policy & Issues) online and FCS 3200 (Research Methods) online, which is a four-credit course that instructs students on how to think like social scientists, carry out research, and become discerning consumers of social science research findings.
To learn more about Dr. Yu and see the other courses he is currently teaching, visit his faculty information page.

Student Research Day
Both graduate and undergraduate students in the college will be given the opportunity to showcase original research projects using poster presentations, and family and friends are encouraged to attend as well. A panel of faculty judges will evaluate the projects and three cash prizes will be awarded for best posters in each of the graduate research and undergraduate research categories!

Women's Week

Women’s Week is an annual, week-long event focused on the issues and challenges faced by those who identify as female. Topics are relevant to today’s socio-economic and political climate, intersectionality, and cultural movements. This year’s Women’s Week theme “Allies in Activism” focuses on the power of Indigenous women activists in and beyond the United States.

While acknowledging colonialism and continued efforts to disenfranchise Indigenous women and their communities, this year’s events celebrate Indigenous knowledge and power. The stories of women from Oohenumpa band of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe; Wayuu who occupy territory split by the Colombia-Venezuela border; and, Indigenous Peoples throughout the Pacific Islands celebrate the power of Indigenous languages and culture, share concrete examples of successful activism in the arenas of self-determination, politics and the law. These women have been unapologetic in their activism and building of institutions and cultural spaces where people might flourish.
