PARENTS' ASSOCIATION NEWS
The Santa Fe Prep Parents' Association, along with faculty and staff, are collaborating with Adelante's Juntos Los Miercoles to feed homeless Santa Fe Public School students and their families one Wednesday a month for six months. Each grade will be responsible for hosting a dinner, beginning this Wednesday, October 11, at 5:00 pm with our 8th grade class.

Adelante provides services to children, teens, and their families experiencing homelessness. They provide advocacy, tutoring, and material aid, and every Wednesday evening throughout the school year, Adelante hosts these students and their families at Sweeney Elementary where participants share a hot meal, parents attend workshops, students enjoy art classes or receive tutoring, and each family leaves with a bag of fresh groceries, books, clothing and other needed supplies. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer, please contact parent Nicole Whitten.

COLLEGE COUNSELING
Over the past month, close to 100 college representatives have visited our campus from all over the United States and abroad: small liberal arts colleges from Maine to Tacoma, Washington, Universities in Scotland, and flagship state schools such as UC Berkeley and the University of Wisconsin.

These representatives provide an information session that introduces our students to their most popular majors, unique and outstanding programs, as well as what student life is like on the weekends. It is a great way for our juniors to start to identify what type of school will be a good fit for them as they embark on the college search process later this winter and for seniors to solidify their final choices. These reps are also the first reader on a student's application, and the visits allow them to learn more about Prep and how engaged and involved our students are in class and in the larger Santa Fe community.
BREAKTHROUGH PROFILE
For Ximena Sanchez, a senior at Monte Del Sol Charter School, Santa Fe Breakthrough is a family affair. Her father, Martin, has cooked and served lunch for Breakthrough since 2004, and Ximena's older sister Andrea graduated from Breakthrough in 2016. So when Ximena was in 6th grade, she knew she wanted to apply.  Reflecting on her 6 years as a Breakthrough student, she credits the program with, "impact[ing] her life for the better, turning a shy young girl into someone who was able to express herself and feel safe while doing so."
Over the past few years, Ximena has focused on integrating and honoring her Mexican and American identities. As a part of this journey, she became involved with Creativity for Peace, a local organization that brings Israeli and Palestinian young women to Santa Fe for intensive leadership and conflict management training. Next year, she is excited to pursue a degree in linguistics and art in order to give back to her community and bridge the cultural gaps that often hinder access.
