2022-2023 Housing Process | DSS Housing Accommodations
Hi there,
As a student with a current housing accommodation from Disability Support Services, you have an opportunity to apply for housing early in our annual housing assignment process to ensure we can assign you to a room that meets your accommodation. Earlier today, you received an email about Room Renewal – an option that allows you to keep your current room for next year.  **Please go back and read the previous email to understand the eligibility requirements for Room Renewal before continuing on with this email.
If you are satisfied with your current room and if you are eligible to remain in your room next year, we encourage you to participate in the Room Renewal process since your current room meets your accommodation, and Room Renewal guarantees your housing assignment in the room you are currently living in for next year.
That being said, we know many of you will not be eligible for Room Renewal, have received recently-updated housing accommodations, or may want to try living in a different room that still meets your housing accommodation. That’s okay! You have additional options to pursue.
The housing application period for students with DSS Housing Accommodations begins tomorrow Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 10 am EST and ends Thursday, Feb. 24 at 10 am EST.
This period’s start and end is identical to the Room Renewal period. This is intentional, to emphasize that many of you have both options - Room Renewal and the regular application for students with DSS housing accomodations - and we hope that you evaluate both options to help you decide what’s best for you.
We’ll send a reminder tomorrow morning when these two options open!

2022-2023 Housing Rates

Please take a moment to review our 2022-2023 housing rates, which are now listed on our website.
Earlier today you received an email regarding dining plans and rates for 2022-2023. If you have any questions regarding next year’s dining plans, reach out to the GW Dining Team at dining@gwu.edu.

Applying for 2022-2023 Housing with a DSS Housing Accommodation

If you chose not to apply for housing via Room Renewal, you will be able to apply using your DSS housing accommodation.
STEP #1: Submit a housing application via the Campus Living eServices Portal via the “Apply for 2022-2023 housing with a DSS housing accommodation” link.
  • Starting Tuesday, Feb. 15, students with an approved DSS housing accommodation may submit a housing application. In your application, you will acknowledge your desire to live on-campus next year and sign your 2022-2023 Housing License Agreement (Here is a copy of the agreement if you’d like to read it ahead of time.)
  • You will be required to list a minimum of five upperclass residence halls in order of preference where you’d like to live. While your housing accommodation is the most important factor in determining where we’ll assign you for next year, we also want to account for the possibility that rooms in multiple buildings could meet your accommodation. It’s also possible only one or two buildings have rooms that meet your accommodation, and we will assign you to one of those buildings regardless of your full building preference list. In the end, your preferences are important to us as we identify the best room for you!
  • If you do not have any friends you want to create a room group with, you’re done with your application.
  • If you have friends you want to create a roommate group with, STEP #2 is for you.
STEP #2: If you have friends you’d like to live with next year, you will need to invite your friend(s) to a roommate group before you submit your housing application.
  • To successfully send your friend/s a roommate group invitation, you’ll need their RMSID. This is the number in the housing system associated with every student. NOTE: this is different than your 8 digit GWID
  • Here’s your RMSID: .  **Ask the person you want to be your new roommate for theirs.
  • Once you invite your peer to your roommate group, they will receive an email inviting them to your group. The email will include directions on how to accept the invite and how to complete their housing application.
STEP #3: All students invited to a roommate group need to accept the invitation in order to be assigned together and then officially apply for housing the Campus Living eServices Portal.
  • Roommate groups operate on mutual consent, meaning that each individual has to affirmatively consent to joining a roommate group after being invited.
  • Not answering or accepting a roommate group invitation is the main reason why desired roommate groups may not be assigned together. If your invited roommates do not accept the invitation from the student who is keeping their room, they will not be assigned as your roommate.
  • When accepting your roommate group invitation, all invited roommates will also need to fully submit a housing application, including signing a 2022-2023 Housing License Agreement (Here is a copy of the agreement if you would like to read it ahead of time).
Once the application period for students with housing accommodations is complete on February 24, we’ll process all the roommate group requests and officially communicate housing assignments for all students who applied for housing across this period.
