insideOwen: February 2016

From the Dean: Owen Life spreads to the West Coast

In January, I had the pleasure of tagging along as our Career Management Center took 25 students to visit 14 different tech companies in Seattle and the Bay Area. The Tech Trek, as it's known, has become a signature part of the Owen School's personal-scale approach to a world-class business education. Local alumni even took part in the Tech Trek by attending Closing Bells in both cities (don't miss our full list of upcoming alumni events below). This year's Tech Trek was a fascinating look inside the innovative tech companies where our alumni are increasingly working (Amazon alone hired 12 students from the MBA Class of 2015). To foster that innovative culture in Nashville, we've partnered with Vanderbilt's School of Engineering for the newly created Innovation Center, a 13,000-square-foot hub for innovation and entrepreneurship (read more on that below). Owen's spread into tech, entrepreneurship and innovation has become so palpable that we're dedicating the entire spring issue of Vanderbilt Business magazine to the trend. Be on the lookout for the magazine in May. In the meantime, check out photos from this year's Tech Trek and hear from students about why the trip is such a special part of the Owen experience.
