MAG MEDICAL RESERVE CORPS TO CONDUCT EMERGENCY TRAINING EXERCISE IN DOUGLAS ON SEPTEMBER 16
ATLANTA – The Medical Association of Georgia Medical Reserve Corps (MAG MRC) is encouraging physicians who live in southern Georgia to participate in an emergency training exercise that it will conduct at the Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, September 16.
“It’s is a given that our community will have to contend with a disaster at some point, whether that is a tornado in Americus that wipes out the hospital, a major hurricane on our coast, or an active shooter situation,” says MAG MRC member and Douglas orthopedic surgeon Jim Barber, M.D. “The purpose of this training exercise is to ensure that we are prepared as a community.”
The training exercise will be based on an F3 tornado – and participants will learn how to deploy a mobile surgical hospital, and they will be trained in proper ‘Stop the Bleed’ campaign hemorrhage control techniques.
Physicians who are interested in participating in the training exercise should contact Dr. Barber at 912.383.9789 or jbarbermd@gmail.com by September 12.
Dr. Barber is also encouraging both physicians and non-physicians who live in southern Georgia to join the MAG MRC, which supplements the state’s official medical and public health and emergency services resources. The MAG MRC is prepared to respond to declared emergencies, including natural disasters (e.g., wildfires, hurricanes, tornados, blizzards, floods) and disease outbreaks.
Go to www.mag.org/affiliates/mrc for additional information or to join the MAG MRC.
