| DRIVE THE HISTORIC MARYHILL LOOPS ROAD

Take a spin along one of the first modern roads in the Northwest. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and road’s eight hairpin curves. Free on the historic Maryhill Loops Road, located just east of US 97 off State Route 14.

| STONEHENGE: PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE (virtual program)

Maryhill’s Stonehenge Memorial was recently nominated to the National Register of Historic Places; learn more about the monument’s fascinating origins, its construction and ongoing conservation efforts in a conversation with preservation planners and conservators from Architectural Resources Group. ARG previously completed repairs to the historic exterior of Maryhill Museum of Art and is a leader in the field of preservation design, having worked on some of the West Coast’s most iconic buildings and sites.
During this virtual program, you will hear from ARG preservation planners Matt Davis and Caity Ewers, who will share information related to the National Register nomination, and from Maya Foty and Candace Naste, who will talk about the conservation needs and efforts to be undertaken at Stonehenge Memorial.

| SUMMER ART INSTITUTE: (on-site program)
July 19 - 23, 2021 | 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily
Our sense of self and identity is often revealed through intentional and unintentional choices, such as the clothes and hairstyles we wear, and the activities we take part in. Join us as we explore, through the arts, how cultural identity can help us better understand ourselves and others. Through reading, discussion, making art and the analysis of art, we will develop a deeper understanding of cultural identity and diversity, and how to teach our students about the multicultural landscape that surrounds us all.
The Institute is led by Maryhill Museum of Art's executive director, Colleen Schafroth, with guest presenters throughout the week. Extracurricular activities can include visits to artist’s studios and regional institutions.
Cost: $215 Maryhill Museum of Art members / $230 non-members; advance registration required.
Three hours of credit are available through Antioch University Seattle. Continuing Education Clock hours Professional hours are available. Scholarship(s) are available through the Janet P. | EXQUISITE GORGE PROJECT REVISITED
It's hard to believe that it's been almost two years since we hosted the Exquisite Gorge Project, a collaborative printmaking effort that featured 11 artists working with communities along a 220-mile stretch of the Columbia River. The artists' woodblock carvings were combined to make a massive 66-foot steamrolled print. When artists and the public gathered at Maryhill for the steamroller event, the excitement and anticipation was palpable as the final image revealed itself — eleven segments combining to create a multifaceted depiction of the Columbia River.
If you missed it the first time around, you can see the large-scale print in Maryhilll’s M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust Education Center through May 31, 2021 as part of the exhibition Exquisite Gorge Project Revisited.
You can also order a copy of the book here. It features all of the prints, artist statements, and a poem by Washington State Poet Laureate Claudia Castro Luna, who commemorated the day in verse.

| THEATRE DE LA MODE
Steve Grafe, Maryhill’s Curator of Art, recently presented a virtual program about Théâtre de la Mode in collaboration with the Fort Walla Walla Museum. He talked about the impetus behind the Théâtre de la Mode and how, after the Nazi occupation, the French fashion industry devised a plan to inform the world that Paris couture was alive and well.
