Dear NOCA Families,
We are grateful for the many faces (old and new) that fill our hallways. Students are beginning to acclimate to the routines and academic demands of the new school year. As we walk through the building, it is filled with W-O-N-D-E-R and learning.
We thank you for partnering with the school to bring classical education to Northwest Ohio. NOCA is a very special place that was born out of a passion and a vision to instill what is good, true and beautiful in the hearts and minds of children. NOCA is the vessel that will impart the highest ideals that mankind has to offer via fidelity to a rigorous classical curriculum, quality instruction, and a commitment to pursuing a virtuous existence.
As we open our doors for the 4th year in a row, we do so with record enrollment of over 500 students. A special thank you to founding members, the board, donors, the building manager, construction crews, repair men, teachers, students, staff, coaches, volunteers, families, and friends of NOCA who have worked so hard to provide our children with this opportunity.
The bonds of a strong community are apparent by the many smiles in carline and the joy-filled faces of the families who attended the NOCA Family Picnic. What an awesome school community we have!
We look forward to a great school year!
Pax,
NOCA Administration

Words of Wisdom from the Dean of Classical Curriculum
|

|
Oddly enough, the word “curriculum” puts me in mind of our annual Spartan Sprint or the years my children ran cross-country. As a Latinist, I can’t help but think of the original roots of the word. Curriculum: a course or race, a path for running, deriving from the Latin verb currere: to run. A curriculum is the path you take. We see this reflected in the term curriculum vitae (CV), which charts the path of your professional life. At a school, the curriculum is the path our students will take to reach their final destination.
When my children were running cross-country, the night before the race volunteers would have to prepare the course. (I was often among them.) First, we had to mark off the course so the runners knew where to go...

Students in grades K-8 will take MAP tests September 6-16. Please make every effort to have your students attend school during the testing window. The state provides a short window to test students three times per year. The MAP testing issued to your child helps to provide teachers with high-quality data that assists teachers with the development of growth improvement plans.

Please check your student's schedule to ensure that they are making progress on their 4-Year Academic Plan.
