Introducing the Gender Policy Research Program

Our Mission

The Gender Policy Research Program (GPRP)'s mission is to connect students, faculty, and staff conducting research on gender and policy across the University.

Meet the Director

Dr. Lauryn King is the director of GWIPP's newly founded Gender Policy Research Program. Her research focuses on the intersectional impacts of public policies on reproduction and fertility. Dr. King recently worked with the Jacobs Institute of Women’s Health on a research project focused on young people’s contraceptive decision-making in the wake of the Dobbs decision, resulting in one paper recently published in Health Affairs and another forthcoming. She also serves as part-time faculty for the Department of Sociology and the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program.

Gender Policy Community Hour

Starting Friday 4/11, we will have an open community hour from 12-1 on the second Friday of each month. April’s community hour will take place on Zoom. All GW community members are welcome to join to discuss their current projects and network with fellow gender policy scholars.

Student Spotlight: Tatiana Ruiz

TSPPPA PhD candidate Tatiana Ruiz (Gender & Social Policy) will be inducted into the prestigious Edward Alexander Bouchet Graduate Honor Society. Tatiana’s research explores how the gender and racial/ethnic composition of university administrators—specifically those in Title IX offices, student affairs and campus security—affect the reporting and handling of sexual violence cases on U.S. campuses. The WGSS Yulee Lecture will take place Monday 3/31 at 3:00pm in USC 310. This year’s lecture will feature Professor Lisa Guenther (Queen’s University, Canada) and Professor E. Ornelas (Dartmouth College).
