For many years, FoodWIse has been a trusted and visible part of Extension’s work in Chippewa, Dunn, and Eau Claire counties. Working in partnership with schools, food pantries, farmers' markets, public health, human services, recovery programs, libraries, and community organizations, FoodWIse educators did far more than deliver nutrition education. They were at the table helping to shape local efforts by removing barriers, strengthening food systems, and making healthy choices easier and more accessible for the people and families in our communities. From expanding the use of FoodShare/EBT at farmers' markets to supporting policy, system, and environmental changes across the area, this work has created impacts that will last well beyond the life of the program.
Due to the federal decision to eliminate SNAP Education funding, the FoodWIse program has ended. While this funding change brings an end to the program, it does not diminish the relationships built, the systems improved, or the lasting difference this work has made across our area. We are deeply grateful to the many partners who welcomed FoodWIse educators as collaborators and changemakers, and to our county board supervisors and county leaders for their longstanding support of Extension and for recognizing the value of this work. Most of all, we thank the FoodWIse educators whose passion, professionalism, and commitment to community health will continue to ripple forward in new ways.
