Dear Colleagues,
With the health and well-being of our community at the forefront of our minds, I write to share that we have made the difficult decision to move components of new student orientation online this summer.
While the online modality cannot replicate the in-person experience that orientation prides itself upon, staff from Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, and Enrollment Management have been planning for this possibility. This team has developed online plans for transitional content and support tailored to first-year students, transfer students, as well as parents and family members. Additionally, in the coming days Associate Dean of Students Shelby Harris and her New Student and Family Programs team will be reaching out to departments and colleges with involvement invitations for this online experience.
Finally, we are hopeful that we can offer additional transitional and community building programming in person as health guidance permits later in the summer or fall.
While this was not our plan nor hope, this work now more than ever is critical for students starting on track, so thank you to all for your support of these efforts. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me directly or Shelby at Shelby.Harris@umb.edu.
With Beacon pride,
Gail DiSabatino Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
