I launched this monthly newsletter a year ago as a one-stop resource for current families to keep tabs on campus news, deadlines, and events. As a Sewanee parent, I know it can sometimes be tricky juggling all the information our families receive!
Now that August has arrived, there’s a real sense of anticipation on the Domain. We’ve said goodbye to our camp and conference attendees, and we’re focused on getting the campus ready for upcoming move-in dates.

Will your student be bringing a car to campus? Don’t forget that Sewanee’s vehicle registration form is due by the first day of classes on Aug. 26. The registration portal is here. (Have your student click on “Get Permits.”) If you have questions about Sewanee’s parking policy or the registration process, please email parkingoffice@sewanee.edu.
We’ve had the best time celebrating our new and returning students at Sewanee’s summer send-offs! I’m so grateful to the families who have hosted these special events. Whether you’re gearing up for your student’s final year on the Mountain or helping your freshman transition from high school to college, I understand this month may bring big emotions. | For New Families: On-Campus Family Orientation |
We’re thrilled that the Class of 2030 and new transfer students will be on the Mountain soon! If your student is new to Sewanee, don’t forget about on-campus orientation.

If your student is a first-year, orientation will take place on Thursday, Aug. 20. Orientation activities for families of transfer students will be held on Sunday, Aug. 23.
If you'll be with us on Aug. 20, be sure to register here. Plan to say goodbye to your student before 2 p.m. that day, when parents will meet in Guerry Auditorium for an information session and our EQB ceremony. Though the ceremony is for students and families, the Class of 2030 will be seated in their own section, separate from parents.
At 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 20, the Sewanee Parents’ Council will host a reception for new parents at Manigault Park. Get ready for a fun evening with live music, plus beverages and light snacks!
If your student is transferring to Sewanee, we hope to see you for a special luncheon at McGriff Alumni House! Mark your calendar for Aug. 23, and plan to meet at McGriff Alumni House at noon. You can RSVP for the luncheon here or by emailing sewaneeparents@sewanee.edu.

Returning Student Move-In:

New students can pick up room keys and student IDs at our check-in table at the Bishop’s Common. Returning students should use their ID cards from the previous year. Your student can request a new ID here.

Sewanee Dining is dedicated to nourishing our community with healthy and delicious cuisine. We look forward to sharing many meals with your student in the new academic year!
McClurg Dining Hall will open on Wednesday, Aug. 12 with abbreviated hours. Our regular schedule will begin with dinner at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 23.

Your student’s meal plan includes $175 per semester in Flex Dollars, which can be used at any on-campus retail dining location (i.e., Stirling’s, Biehl Café, the Pub, and Cup & Gown) and at partner retailers in the Sewanee Village. To add extra money (Domain Dollars) to your student’s account, click here.
Anytime your student is sick, they can request a takeout box to fill up themselves, or they can ask a friend to pick up a box. You can also request a birthday treat for your student to help them celebrate on their special day!

Registration for fall upper-class fraternity and sorority recruitment is open! The deadline for completing registration forms is Thursday, September 10, at 11:59 p.m.
Upper-class recruitment is open to current sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
|
|
|
|
Potential new members are required to hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.15.
Recruitment for first-year students will take place during the Easter 2027 semester.
Upper-class recruitment will take place September 21–26, with required educational training sessions held the week prior.

The Office of Global Citizenship is ready to help your student explore Sewanee’s more than 100 approved study away programs.
If your student is interested in studying away, encourage them to attend our Fall Study Away Fair on Thursday, Sept. 3, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the McClurg patio.

Students should begin the study away application process one year before their intended semester abroad. The first step is creating an account in Via, using Banner login credentials. Through Via, students can complete all necessary paperwork, receive important communications about study away procedures and deadlines, and learn more about program offerings.
