Dear ATMIA Member,
First and foremost, we hope all our members are staying safe and healthy as we all contend with this global pandemic. As shutdowns continue to intensify our industry will become increasingly impacted. ATMIA will be with you to support you and together we can look forward to the future of this industry once this health crisis is abated.
To meet the increasing challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, ATMIA has been proactive in steering the industry with the necessary precautions and I would like to take this opportunity to share the few with you:
Firstly, ATMIA has now established an online Coronavirus portal to provide members with information, articles, reports and will update the industry on the impact of Coronavirus pandemic worldwide. Click here to access the portal.
Secondly, members have received a survey to share their ideas, concerns, and insights to help our industry through this pandemic for current and future advocacy. To view this survey click here.
Finally, the AP Strategic Direction teleconference held last week, addressed pertinent industry talking points related to COVID 19. We've listened to our members and ATMIAs plan over the coming months include the following:
- To contact both Federal and State Health Ministers and reach out to the Australian Government COVID-19 advertising campaigners regarding their advice to people to use tap and go over cash. In doing so, we will emphasise the importance of cash as part of a resilient payment system and the fact that the World Health Organisation (WHO) has not advised against its use.
- After receiving feedback from members on the draft media release (due 17/4), ATMIA will contact various media outlets.
- ATMIA will reach out to the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) to see if they can assist with a public notification similar to Reserve Bank New Zealand - Cash System Sound and Functioning.

In the interest of all industry stakeholders, ATMIA has re-scheduled the Next-Gen ATMs and Payment Sydney conference to 9th -10th December. This event will provide all conference delegates opportunity to harness unique strengths, addressing the challenges and opportunities of our rapidly changing industry, especially in light of COVID 19. It's only through harnessing innovation and continuing to address evolving industry issues can the industry continue to thrive.

Stay safe everyone, ATMIA will continue to support our members in this uncertain period.
Cheers

Cash Usage Regarding COVID-19
Medical experts have confirmed that cash, including coins is safe to use – there is no evidence that either coins or cash spread COVID-19.
The World Health Organization has rejected reports that it warned COVID-19 could be spread through handling cash. WHO spokeswoman Fadela Chaib said, ‘WHO did NOT say banknotes would transmit COVID-19, nor have we issued any warnings or statements about this.’
