Dear Parents and Families, |
As we approach the final stretch of the school year, we hope you will continue to encourage your students to take advantage of the opportunities listed in this email. These are just a few ways they can finish the semester on a strong note.
To keep you engaged, we have some exciting opportunities coming your way. Starting with our Parent & Family Webinar, "Cultivating Student Success: Spring Edition" scheduled for TONIGHT, Tuesday, March 25, at 6:00 pm ET. Families will hear from the Office of Undergraduate Education. We will focus on ways families can support their students in finishing the semester strong - highlighting key Duke resources and strategies that will help students academically, professionally, and personally as they wrap up the term.
As always, thank you for the ways you support your student from home!
Have a great day, and Go Duke!

Residence Hall Closing Process
|
From Housing and Residence Life |
All residence halls and apartments close at NOON (12 pm) on Monday, May 5, 2025. Only students who have been approved for an extension, are transitioning to summer school housing, or are graduating may stay past this date. Please coordinate moving plans with this date and time in mind.
Check-out involves preparing each room, completing the check-out form, and returning the room key (where applicable):
|
- Pack and take all personal belongings. Check all drawers and under and behind furniture to ensure everything is collected.
- Remove all trash and recyclables.
- Donations should be placed in a designated donation collection area.
- Make sure all furniture is accounted for.
-
Microfridge? Unplug and defrost the unit first. After it has defrosted, make sure to clean the unit. Units should be left in the room and will be picked up after the student leaves.
- Make sure the door is locked when a student leaves.
- Complete the check-out form.
- Return key to the campus office (if applicable).
|
A note regarding damages and billing:
Part of the check-out process is to assess the room for any repairs that may be needed due to either wear and tear usage or damage/excessive cleaning. Housing and Residence Life will compare the room's current state to the original room condition report completed when students first moved- in. Damage charges are divided equally between roommates unless HRL receives a written statement from one roommate claiming responsibility for the repairs/cleaning.
Students will receive additional move-out information over the next several weeks.

As defined by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), career readiness is a foundation from which to demonstrate requisite core competencies that broadly prepare the college-educated for success in the workplace and lifelong career management. For new college graduates, career readiness is key to ensuring successful entrance into the workforce. Career readiness is the foundation upon which a successful career is launched and the basis for much of the work the Career Center does with your students.
