Join the World Data System Early Career Researcher Network (WDS-ECR) for a conversation with the winners of the 2026 Data Stewardship Award. This webinar will include an extended interview with the three winners in which they discuss their careers, data stewardship, what the Data Stewardship Award application process is like, and more. It will also feature a brief presentation from each winner in which they discuss their work in data stewardship. This session will end with an interactive Q&A session, giving attendees the chance to ask the speakers their own questions.

The Summer School on Methods to Advance Language Technologies (MALT), a four-day course focusing on the latest challenges and developments in Language Technologies, will be held in Villers-Cotterêts, France, from 25-28 August 2026. Participants will have the opportunity to engage directly with thought leaders, top researchers, and industry pioneers. This Summer School is open to PhD researchers, young researchers, and industry professionals.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is offering a two-day course that will provide an introduction to the application of multilevel models with nested data, including software implementation in SAS, SPSS, and Stata. The course will take place over two days, 9 September and 11 September 2026, and will be offered over Zoom.

The GDPR 4 Data Support (GDPR4DS) course is an introductory course designed for data supporters who want to understand more about the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the context of research and want to strengthen their role in protecting personal data. The course includes interactive sessions with experts, peer learning, and hands-on assignments to help participants address the handling of personal data in a research context. The full GDPR 4 Data Support course costs €895, excluding Value-Added Tax (VAT).

The HiTZ Chair of Artificial Intelligence and Language Technology is offering specialized courses in Generative AI, Deep Learning, and Language Technology. This series of courses offers an immersion in the fields of deep learning, large language models and their impactful applications, and covers topics ranging from fundamental principles to the most advanced methodologies. These courses are aimed at professionals, researchers, and students who wish to understand and apply the latest techniques in Artificial Intelligence.

The Singapore Open Research Conference 2026, being organized by WDS regular member DR-NTU (Data) and hosted by Nanyang Technological University, will take place in Singapore from 4-5 November 2026 with the theme “AI and Open Research: Building Trust, Ensuring Security, Driving Impact.” This conference aims to bring together researchers, research managers, librarians, research service providers, policy makers, funders, publishers, and leaders to explore how artificial intelligence is shaping open research and will examine important questions around trust, security, and impact, offering a platform to share insights, experiences, and best practices.

The Research Data Alliance (RDA)'s 27th Plenary Meeting (P27) is being held in London, United Kingdom, as an in-person event from 6-8 October 2026. P27 will be hosted by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and will have the theme “Shaping a Global Open Research Commons.”

The International Geographical Union (IGU) is hosting its IRC Regional Conference 2026 in Istanbul, Turkey, 17-21 August 2026. Participants can attend sessions reflecting the comprehensive perspective of Geography, meet with experts who will address important issues such as sustainable management of natural resources, climate change effects, protection of cultural heritage and digital geography, and share their knowledge and experiences, as well as establish new collaborations.

The Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR) is hosting its SCOR 2026 Annual Meeting from 8-10 September 2026 in Helsinki, Finland. You can find the event schedule and more information here.

iPRES 2026 will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark, and online from 21-25 September 2026. The conference themes are Community, Preservation, and Horizon, which encourage reflections on the evolving practices, innovations, and collaborations shaping the future of digital preservation.

Common Language Resources and Technology Infrastructure (CLARIN), a WDS network member, is hosting its CLARIN Annual Conference 2026 in Brighton, United Kingdom, and online from 29 September-1 October. This conference is organized for the wider humanities and social sciences communities to exchange ideas and experiences within the CLARIN infrastructure, including the design, construction, and operation of the CLARIN infrastructure; the data, tools, and services that it contains or for which there is a need; its actual use by researchers and teachers, its relation to other infrastructures and projects; and the CLARIN Knowledge Infrastructure.

The International Digital Curation Conference 2027 (IDCC) will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, from 9-12 February 2027. The theme of this conference is “FAIR DO's: Centring People in the Stewardship and Curation of Digital Objects.” The conference is accepting five submission types: Papers, Lightning Talks, Posters, Demos, and Workshops.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH)’s National Cancer Institute (NCI) is hosting its NCI Data Jamboree: Enhancing Data Sharing and Utility to Advance Cancer Research from 16-18 November 2026 in Rockville, Maryland, United States. This event allows participants to work together in a small collaborative group setting and solve specific problems using a variety of cancer research datasets. In-person teams are preferred, but virtual and hybrid teams are allowed.

The American Geophysical Union (AGU) 2026 Annual Meeting (AGU26) will be held 7-11 December 2026 in San Francisco, California, United States. Individuals are invited to submit abstracts that focus on scientific results, enabling Earth and space science or its application, or the contributions of the Earth and space sciences to society.

The 13th edition of the Web-as-Corpus (WaC-13) workshop will be held 24-29 October 2026 in Budapest, Hungary, and will provide a multidisciplinary forum for research addressing the full lifecycle of web data. Submissions for papers on methods, resources, and applications related to web corpora, with special emphasis on multilingual data and less-resourced languages are invited.

OpenAIRE, a WDS partner member, and Alien Intelligence are hosting a 12-week open science build challenge that is open to researchers, technologists, and end-users. Participants will explore the OpenAIRE Graph via the OpenAIRE MCP plugged into Alien's AI Gateway and will contribute artifacts that turn open science into insight, such as code, methodologies, applied case studies, and conversations.

The 30th International Conference on Theory and Practice of Digital Libraries (TPDL), being held in Faro, Portugal, from 22-25 September 2026 has an open call for papers for their TPDL 2026 Doctoral Consortium. This call offers PhD students the opportunity to present their research in a supportive, expert environment, receive structured feedback from senior researchers, and connect with peers at similar stages of their academic journey. Submissions from early- and mid-stage PhD students working on ongoing or planned research relevant to the TPDL community are encouraged.

The Generative Decision Science Conference, being held from 26-27 November 2026 in Johannesburg, South Africa, aims to explore the transformative role of data-driven decision-making in addressing complex societal challenges and emphasizes open science, data stewardship, and evidence-based decision-making as critical enablers of inclusive development, particularly in emerging economies. The conference has an open call for papers and invites submissions from scholars, industry practitioners, and post-graduate students with research interests in the fields of Decision Science, Data Science, Information Science, Information Management, Knowledge Management, Information Systems, and other information studies.

The 2026 Conference of the Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information will be held in Berlin, Germany, and online from 24-25 November 2026 with the theme “Aligning policy and practical implementation.” The conference will bring together the international community of signatories, supporters, and other stakeholders, and it will create a space to advance open research information across institutional contexts and explore how to align policy and practical implementation. Proposals for presentations and posters that share experiences, lessons learned, and reflections on both successes and setbacks related to the adoption and use of open research information across different institutional, national, regional, and international contexts are invited. In 2025, WDS endorsed the Barcelona Declaration on Open Research.

The 15th edition of the Natural Language Processing (NLP) for Computer-Assisted Language Learning (NLP4CALL) will be held in Gothenburg, Sweden, on 19-20 November 2026. This event is a meeting place for researchers working on integrating Natural Language Processing and Speech Technologies in Computer-Assisted Language Learning systems and exploring the theoretical and methodological issues arising in this connection.

A working group of the Data Repositories Expert Group (DREG) of the Digital Research Alliance of Canada is developing guidance on trustworthy data repository characteristics, ahead of the Tri-Agency Research Data Management Policy data deposit requirement anticipated to take effect in 2027. Those based in Canada are invited to provide inputs on the characteristics that will directly impact the guidance via the survey linked in the buttons below. The survey is available in English and in French.

The “Study on the effectiveness of an online training module on reproducibility in science,” is seeking participation from early-career researchers. This study is part of the larger OSIRIS project, a collaboration between universities and research institutes across Europe and is funded by the European Union. This study will include three parts:

Deadline to Complete Baseline Survey: 16 August 2026

The European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) EDEN project team is seeking participation in their “Criteria for evaluating the quality of research (meta)data” survey. This survey asks for insights on issues encountered regarding sharing, finding, accessing, and working with research data and perspectives on the future of FAIR long-term data preservation from researchers who work with data on a daily basis, professionals who manage or curate research data, and/or professionals who work with the technical infrastructure required for managing or curating research data. Completing the survey should take 20-30 minutes.

Open Science Collaborative of Library and Information Professionals (OSCLIP) invites individuals to contribute their instructional resources to a new OSCLIP initiative dedicated to building a comprehensive knowledge bank for open science instruction for library and information professionals. Their goal is to collect, organize, and share high-quality instructional materials that OSCLIP members can use, adapt, and reuse to inform and enhance their own instruction practices. Carnegie Mellon University, the host of the OSCLIP project, was a Lyrasis 2026 Catalyst Fund Recipient. The awarded amount will be used to help transition the four OSCLIP projects from prototypes to community-validated resources.

The University of Bath has an open position for a Research Data Librarian. This role will entail delivering guidance, training, and expert advice to researchers across disciplines, helping researchers manage their data throughout the research lifecycle, including storing, managing, securing, sharing, and preserving research data at the University. This role will also play a key role in supporting funder compliance, promoting open data practices, enhancing the visibility and impact of research data in the University’s Research Data Archive through light-touch curation, and supporting researchers as they write Data Management Plans, determine appropriate storage for their projects, and publish their data.

The LEGO Foundation is accepting applications for its LEGO Foundation Fellowship, which is a global research fellowship for early- and mid-career researchers whose work can strengthen understanding of how children thrive across diverse contexts. The fellowship provides flexible support over a three-year period for researchers pursuing ambitious, rigorous, and practically relevant work and who have strong research potential, clear ideas for the next phase of their work, and a commitment to building evidence that can inform action for children.

The Scientific Committee on Solar Terrestrial Physics (SCOSTEP), a WDS partner member, is accepting nominations for its Distinguished Scientist and Distinguished Young Scientist Awards. These awards recognize the societal importance of studies in the field of solar-terrestrial physics and give credit to scientists who contribute significantly to these studies and to SCOSTEP activities.

The University of Louvain (UCLouvain) has an opening for a PhD fellowship within the interdisciplinary research project “How Generative AI is shaping human language: insights from post-AI language use, learning and critical literacy.” This project will investigate the longitudinal effects of interacting with Generative AI chatbots on the second language development of French learners, with a focus on vocabulary and pragmatics.

The UK-Ireland Digital Humanities Association is seeking an Advocacy & Engagement Fellow who will work to develop the Advocacy strand of the Association’s activities and will work closely with the Association’s leadership Collective and support staff at the School of Advanced Study, University of London. This is a 12-month fellowship with the theme “Openness and Transparency.” Projects interested in exploring advocacy to support cross-sector collaboration with non-HEI organizations and communities or for Digital Humanities at a policy level with funders, national bodies and institutions are particularly welcomed. Applicants must be a resident of Ireland or the United Kingdom.

The North Carolina State University Libraries is hiring a Data Science Librarian. This role provides expert consultative support, workshop-based training, and course-integrated instruction for students, faculty, and researchers in the areas of data science and visualization and leads the Data Science Services (DSS) Department’s support around tabular data, spreadsheet software and tools, and data visualizations, while also contributing to other data science topics aligned with their skills and patron’s needs.

The Goergen Institute for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, at the University of Rochester, is accepting applications for the Dalal Family Postdoctoral Fellowship in AI Ethics. This fellowship supports applied research on AI and its societal impact, informing policy and addressing real-world ethical challenges across human life. Future Dalal Family Postdoctoral Fellows will receive a stipend, mentorship, teaching opportunities, and support for interdisciplinary collaboration for one to two years. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position has been filled.

Sense about Science is accepting nominations for the 2026 edition of the John Maddox Prize for courageously advancing public discourse with sound science. This prize is awarded to individuals who stand up for science and evidence, advancing public discussion around difficult topics despite challenges or hostility. Both the main award and the early-career award have a prize value of $5,000 USD.

The British Academy is offering awards of up to £8,000 for humanities and social sciences researchers to push boundaries and seek imaginative new ways to engage with the public through their SHAPE Involve and Engage public engagement program. They are seeking researchers from across the United Kingdom to deliver innovative public engagement projects working in partnership with a gallery, archive, library or museum or a performing arts organization.

Applications for the Adam Kilgarriff Prize, a prize intended for young researchers in the fields of corpus linguistics, language technologies, and lexicography, are open for the sixth iteration of the award. The winner of the prize will receive EUR 2500, perpetual Sketch Engine access, the option of a lecture or demo session at the eLex conference, and a recommendation to the conference’s program committee as an invited speaker, if willing. Additionally, the winner may be given one of the keynote slots to give the Adam Kilgarriff Lecture (subject to the committee’s agreement).

The Open Repositories Steering Committee (ORSC) is accepting nominations for new standing members. The ORSC manages the annual Open Repositories Conference and typically consists of 12 standing members, as well as the chairs of the host and program committees for the annual conferences. The Endangered Languages Documentation Programme (ELDP) is offering multiple grants for the documentation of endangered languages globally. ELDP invites applications from documenters from language communities, local scholars, and students from the country where the language is spoken/signed, as well as collaborative and interdisciplinary projects.

“Towards a decentralized future for open-science databases” explores the proposal of a hybrid framework that integrates federated and decentralized models to ensure the resilience, sustainability, and FAIR/CARE stewardship of scientific data as a global public good for large-scale biological data repositories.

The Federation of Earth Science Information Partners (ESIP), a WDS partner member, has shared the findings and resources from their Building Resilience of Data Repositories During Periods of Crisis project that began in October 2025 and lasted six months. This project engaged global experts and used Repository Crisis Scorecards (RCS) to examine how repositories experience disruption and how to strengthen their resilience.

“Transforming Research Visibility with RAiD at Oak Ridge National Laboratory,” a blog post from Lyrasis, delves into the planned adoption of RAiD (Research Activity Identifier) by Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in an effort to track research activities from inception through execution and beyond, regardless of whether traditional outputs are produced.

UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) announced the public launch of the UNESCO Open Science Platform, which was developed in partnership with the United Nations International Computing Centre (UNICC). The platform was released as free and open-source software and aims to promote UNESCO-related knowledge and support the implementation of the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science.

“Gaps Become Bridges: Using Skills Assessment Insights to Shape Digital Humanities Training in Research Infrastructures,” is a presentation from the DARIAH Annual Event 2026 that proposes a set of evidence-based recommendations for improving professional training programs and digital humanities curricula based on insights from the ATRIUM Skillset Assessment and Gap Analysis Report.
