Greater Washington’s own Michael Plostock, DC member of The Jewish Federations’ National Young Leadership Cabinet and an alumnus of Young Judaea, works as senior advisor for response and recovery at FEMA. In an interview for eJewish Philanthropy, Michael reflects on his deployment to the tragic building collapse in Surfside, FL, and the power of Jewish community connection during this painful time. As Michael shares, “I don’t wear a yarmulke on a day to day basis…but when I was down there, I put on a yarmulke and it immediately created a connection for people to come and talk to me.”

- DC Diaper Bank
Volunteer to help DC Diaper Bank provide baby food and formula, toothbrushes, shampoo, and nearly 650,000 diapers a month to low-income families in DC, Virginia, and Maryland.
- Sewers Needed to Make Masks
Volunteer Alexandria needs participants to sew and distribute masks to individuals and families who pick up meals without wearing one as well as to local nonprofits for their participants/clients. Children-sized masks are the highest need.
