UAH alumna Jessica A. Gaskin leads NASA Lynx X-ray Observatory Mission »

Parental influence ignited Jessica Gaskin’s (’04 PhD Physics) appreciation of the wonders of space at an early age.
"My parents both had science backgrounds. My father in Geophysics and Astronomy and my mother in Geology," said Gaskin, an alumna of The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH). "Their influence and my need to know how things worked led me to appreciate the vast unknowns of space," she added. 
As a girl, Gaskin "always knew" she wanted to work for the space giant. "Growing up in Houston, TX, around the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) had a huge influence on me."

As a youngster, the U.S. Army was a big part of Steve Hill’s (’87 BS EE) life. "Growing up as an Army dependent was a good life," said Hill, an alumnus of UAH.
Hill "learned a lot traveling around the world, but was ready to stay in the same place for a while" when the family moved to Huntsville. While in high school, he enjoyed mathematics and considered working at a company to support war-fighters, since his dad was a retired Army Colonel. 

UAH new site of state Office for Public Transportation under grant »

Beginning in January, UAH will be the site of the Office for Public Transportation under a three-year, $4.5 million grant.
The grant is through a partnership between the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT), Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and UAH.
"We are being established to provide support services to ALDOT and the state’s public transportation providers through UAH," says Dr. Mike Anderson, chair of UAH’s Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering and the principal investigator for the grant.
