Assistant Deans Named
Late last week, Dean Karl Martin announced two new Assistant Deans to oversee the northern and southern zones of the new multi-county areas. Dave Berard will serve as the assistant dean in the northern zone and Matt Hanson will serve as the Assistant Dean in the southern zone.
In his 28 years with Cooperative Extension, Dave Berard has served in many different roles, most recently as the Associate State Program Director for Community Natural Resources and Economic Development, and Organizational Development Specialist. Prior Cooperative Extension experience includes County and Tribal Extension Educator, County Department Head and Area Business Management Education Agent. Dave also served as Academic Dean and Business Manager for Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwa Community College. In his Extension career, Dave has assisted many groups and organizations with organizational development, strategic planning, conflict resolution and change management processes; and has moderated public forums related to tribal/county relations, shore land zoning, natural resource use conflicts, wildlife issues, and economic development.
Matt Hanson has over 20 years of experience in Cooperative Extension, serving as the Crops and Soils Agent in Jefferson County for 8 years, Dodge County for 7 years, and most recently as the Southwest Regional Director for nearly six years. In his Regional Director role, he provided administrative leadership to approximately 120 faculty and staff across 16 counties in Southwestern Wisconsin. His primary responsibilities included human resource development, fiscal resource management, internal and external relations and support for organizational culture and functions. Matt values and understands the importance of relationships and looks forward to building a team of Area Extension Directors across the state as the next step of the nEXT Generation restructure.
Their appointments begin April 1, 2017. In these roles, Matt and Dave will be working closely with the Regional Directors and their offices and the County Department Heads as we move through the transition period to a new nEXT Generation model. One of their first tasks will be to launch a search for the Area Extension Directors in the next week.
