Welcome to the Class of 2020As COVID-19 regulations continued to change, it became clear that there was no way to create a safe, live Commencement. For the class of 2020, a Virtual Commencement allowed the University to safely celebrate the achievements of 941 students, now alumni.

Goodwin Nurses, a team at St. Francis Hospital
Goodwin 2016 graduates John Carlos, Laura Kennedy, and Steve Yenco in the trauma room at Saint Francis Hospital. Steve writes to Jan Watts: “Since graduation, the three of us have been working in the ER together. It has been an insane ride, especially the last few months. Regardless of where we are, the lessons taught during our time at Goodwin have stayed with us through all of the uncertainty. We rely on each other more than ever, and I cannot thank you enough for starting our journey together. I gained not only colleagues, but lifelong friends."

Career Change
Ron Buck was a sportswriter and editor for ESPN Online for 25 years before he got laid off in 2017. Following some prompting from Susan Bysiewicz, he did a career change into Manufacturing and completed our 37-credit CNC program this past spring. He found and completed the program amid the COVID-19 pandemic. He combined his previous knowledge with his newfound skills and has landed a job in Southington working for Supreme Lake Manufacturing. He is not working on the line but estimating projects, a job he wouldn’t have landed if it weren't for the machining knowledge he gained here.

2020 Deemed Year of the Nurse
2020 has served up some of the biggest challenges we have seen. The silver lining during this crisis has been the amount of recognition and praise bestowed upon health care workers. It seems only appropriate that 2020 be deemed the year of the nurse. Take a look at this special video highlighting words of encouragement, support, and achievement by our own nursing leaders and educators.
