Setex (formerly nanoGriptechnologies) Sells Business Unit

Setex Technologies, the global leader in the commercialization of gecko-inspired adhesive and gripping products, has announced that it has sold its industrial tape and gripping technology business unit to Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd., Inc., a publicly traded Japanese manufacturer of chemicals, semiconductor silicon, and electronics and specialty materials. 

Setex Technologies, a spin out of Carnegie Mellon University founded by former faculty and distinguished service professor Metin Sitti, is the first commercial manufacturer of micro-fibrillar polymer-based dry adhesive materials for a wide range of product applications.

Gecko Robotics Partners with UAE Oil Company

Gecko Robotics Inc.,co-founded by Tepper School of Business alumnus and COO Troy Demmer and CEO Jake Loosararian, has  announced a contract with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company Gas, based in the United Arab Emirates. Gecko's robots will be deployed across ADNOC Gas sites to perform predictive maintenance, improve efficiency, reduce CO2 emissions and maintain safety.
The contract has an estimated ceiling of $30M.

Congrats to Two James R. Swartz Entrepreneurial Fellows!
Olivia Wu Finishes the 2024 Tri-State New Jersey Spartan Race
Qinyuan (Olivia) Wu, Master of Information Technology - Information Security program at Carnegie Mellon's Information Networking Institute, recently participated and finished the 2024 Tri-State New Jersey Spartan Race. Held on April 27-28, 2024, the event is a series of obstacle course races designed to test endurance, strength, and agility. Participants can choose from different race types, including Sprint, Super, and Beast, each with varying levels of difficulty and distance.

Olivia participated and dominated in the Sprint event.


Christina Yang Wins Fourth Place at 2024 DeAI Hackathon Competition

Carnegie Mellon Master of Design student Christina Yang recently won fourth place at DeAI Hackathon 2024, a global hackathon competition launched by EMC (Edge Matrix Computing). Her project, Marble (formerly Web4), empowers users with no-code tools to build decentralized apps (DaPP).

The DeAI Hackathon aims to promote innovation in the fields of AI and decentralized technology. The goal of the competition is to find and incubate dapps that have made breakthrough progress in the fields of AI and Web3, and to redefine the possibilities at the intersection of AI and blockchain technology.
