When did your dreams die? Was it the loss of a loved one or a lack of opportunity? Do you remember the sound as they slid down the drain?
Langston Hughes wrote,
"Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow."
Israel's dreams died the day he saw the torn bloody coat and heard Joseph had died. After that, he no longer lived but just subsisted.
Then from Egypt his sons returned with stories of life, resurrecting his dreams and reviving his spirit.
The disciples returning to Emmaus watched their dreams die with Jesus on the cross. But when they realized he was alive, their hearts burned and their dreams revived.
Their story is our story. The one who died is now alive. The resurrection restores our dreams and revives our spirits.
