“There’s a gentleman here from Africa who needs a SIM card to activate his phone, and stitches removed from his head,” Dianne De Wit told me. Both of us have helped at our share of events, but neither of us has had a request like this.
We scrambled. Soon, Beth Baas, director of campus health services, had removed the stitches, Dianne had arranged a solution for his phone, and Pinney Francis Muthee was back in business. Having lunch together on the closing day of the Global Agriculture Summit, Pinney (with his scar covered under his new Dordt College hat) said he’d never seen people as kind as those he’d just met. Pinney, here on a whim for the summit, believed that God wanted him at the conference and that the same God who miraculously worked through customs and fast-tracked his Visa would continue to care for him through his trip. His scar came from a car accident just after he brought several new believers to Christ in rural Africa. His faith and complete dependence on God will stick with me —as will his unique request.
The Global Agriculture Summit set out to grow connections for flourishing communities. Pinney, Beth, and Dianne did just that—one stitch and one SIM card at a time.
Soli Deo Gloria.
