Teaching Tips: UNCG Student VOISES |
This week we are bringing you tips straight from our UNCG students. During the Fall 2025 semester, we hosted VOISES panels and interviewed individual students about their experiences at UNCG. This is part of what they would like faculty to know:
- “Please don't just mention resources, but help explain them.” In addition to mentioning campus resources, showing students how to use office hours and access academic or mental health support is a huge help. Walking students through scheduling or navigating websites can make a big difference.
-
“Let's connect content to real-life." Help students see the relevance of what they’re learning by linking it to real-world applications, careers, and current issues whenever possible.
- “If you know of an internship, conference, etc, please tell us.” Inform students about internships, conferences, and networking options. Sometimes, you are the only source you have for these connections in your field.
We hope these tips from students are helpful and serve as good reminders to keep doing what you are doing. If you’d like to hear more from students, we have a VOISES panel around AI this Thursday at 1 pm. Sign up below to get more information.

VOISES Panel This Week: Using AI |
Join the UTLC and the Office of Intercultural Engagement for a conversation about student experiences in the classroom and beyond. This time the student panel is focused on AI use and will take place on March 26 at 1 pm. VOISES panels provide a venue for faculty to hear the perspective of students about their experiences on campus. These moderated panels give faculty the chance to ask questions while reflecting on ways they can support student success and learning.

Tech Tips: Student Voises
Giving students a voice can be a simple addition to your usual curriculum. A quick poll in Microsoft Teams lets students share their opinions instantly, whether you’re choosing discussion topics, reviewing understanding, or gathering feedback. It’s fast, optionally anonymous, and boosts engagement.
You can launch a poll directly from a Teams meeting using Microsoft Forms.
Here’s a quick step‑by‑step to get started. You can also explore additional guides from UNCG’s Knowledge Base for more support!
How to use Polls in Microsoft Teams
- In Teams, select Calendar.
-
Find the meeting you've scheduled for which you want to add polls and click or tap it.
- Select Chat with participants.
- Select Add a tab, search for and select Polls, and then click or tap Add.
- Select Save.
- A new Polls tab will be added to your meeting.
- Select Create New Poll.
-
Enter your question (such as "Which topic should we review next?")
- Add answer choices.
- Select Save and then Launch to share it with students.
