The Walsh community came together to celebrate the season at the Swords Up Spring Festival, hosted by Athletics and Student Activities. Held on Tuesday, April 22 at Larry Staudt Field, the event featured an afternoon of fun, food, and school spirit. Students and staff enjoyed sweet treats from the Milk and Honey Ice Cream Truck and grabbed delicious bites from Drew’s Concessions, with the first 200 students receiving a free item. Lawn games like cornhole, Spike ball, and Giant Jenga added to the lively atmosphere, creating plenty of moments to relax and connect. The day capped off with a spirited Men’s Lacrosse matchup against Seton Hill University. Thank you to everyone who joined in the celebration—Swords Up!

Samantha Kelley to Receive Honorary Degree at 2025 Commencement |

| Samantha Kelley, international presenter, author, and founder of FIERCE Athlete Inc., will serve as the 2025 Commencement Speaker and receive an Honorary Doctorate of Applied Leadership during the Commencement Ceremonies on Saturday, May 3, 2025. The event will celebrate the academic achievements of more than 600 graduates and recognize outstanding contributions to leadership, faith, and service.
A nine-time state high school champion and former Division I soccer player at the University of Connecticut, Samantha Kelley has devoted her life to empowering female athletes through faith, truth, and authentic identity. As the Founder and President of FIERCE Athlete Inc., Kelley has built a national platform dedicated to mentoring young women in sport to embrace their dignity and compete with purpose. | Read More

City of North Canton to Receive the Distinguished Service Medal

|
The University will also honor the City of North Canton with the Distinguished Service Medal, recognizing its longstanding partnership and unwavering support of the University’s mission. For more than six decades, the City of North Canton and Walsh University have exemplified a symbiotic town and gown relationship, growing and thriving together since the early 1960s. From the shared development of Washington Square on the former Hoover Farm to the city’s consistent support of Walsh milestones and events, their collaboration has strengthened the community and campus alike.

WU LaunchPad Competition, Today |
The WU LaunchPad Competition returns today, Wednesday, April 23 at 5 p.m. in the Global Learning Center. Hosted by The Garage: Nolan Family Center for Innovation, this exciting event gives students the chance to pitch their business ideas for a shot at startup funding. This year, up to 10 students will compete for cash prizes—$5,000 for 1st place, $2,500 for 2nd, and $1,500 for 3rd. All are welcome to attend—no cost, and food and drinks will be provided!

Arts In Stark Tickets Available |
Arts in Stark has graciously offered a free ticket for up to 25 Walsh University students and staff to attend their event, Creativity, Connection, and Health which will explore how the arts can play a significant role in improving overall health. Dr. Jeremy Nobel, a Harvard physician, author, and national expert on the intersection of arts and healing will be leading an engaging evening session on April 23 (TONIGHT) at 6 p.m. at the Cultural Center for the Arts, focusing on the powerful connection between creativity and well-being. The first 25 students and staff may register for free at the following link using the code: WALSH.

Students in Professor Megan Pellegrino’s Exhibition Design course hosted an opening reception for the Student Art Exhibition on Wednesday, April 16 in the Birk Center for the Arts. Over 50 people were there to support the work of Walsh student artists. As part of the festivities, students Noah Bott and Robbie Klockner performed two original songs. Students Sarah Christensen, Haley Crawford, Miryam Krills, Allison Scarpone and Cat Taylor selected the artwork for the show, matted the art, created labels, designed the layout, installed the exhibition, created promotional marketing, and hosted the reception. Be sure to check out the artwork in the Birk Center before the end of the school year!

Dr. Ute Lahaie, Associate Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness & Assessment gave a presentation entitled Mastering the Year 4 Update: Strategies for Accreditation Success on April 7, 2025, at the HLC Annual Conference—Higher Learning 2025—in Chicago.
Three members of Walsh’s HLC Accreditation Committee, Drs. Marc Fusaro, Ute Lahaie, and Jackie Novak recently attended the Higher Learning 2025 conference in Chicago, where they explored the updated criteria for accreditation, gained insights into the Quality Initiative process, and gathered new ideas to support Student Success initiatives. In addition, the committee chair, Dr. Ute Lahaie, participated in a pre-conference workshop designed specifically for peer reviewers, further enhancing the team’s understanding of accreditation best practices.
