Accelerate Your Professional Growth with the KL2 Career Development Awards Program |
The Clinical Research Training Center (CRTC) is currently seeking applications for the KL2 Career Development Awards Program, aimed at incoming or current junior faculty interested in clinical and translational research. This program provides financial support and infrastructure allowing scholars protected time to perform research and engage in formal didactic instruction.

**Beginning this year, we’re excited to offer a dedicated slot for a junior faculty member conducting Public Health Research!
|
|
|
- Doctoral degree
-
Conducting translational or clinical research
- US Citizen, non-citizen national or permanent resident
- Ability to devote 75% professional effort (50% for surgical specialties) for a minimum of two years
|
| - 75% salary support (up to $75,000 per year)
- $25,000 per year in research funds
- Mentored training in clinical and translational research
|

The Bench Fundamentals for Translational Research course introduces fellows-in-training and future physician scientists to the core principles of scientific investigation. This unique three-week intensive format will combine theoretical knowledge with practical, hands-on applications to provide students with an understanding of common research approaches used in current scientific endeavors.

This fall, the Clinical Research Training Center (CRTC) is launching Clinical Investigation Bootcamp, a 1-2 year program designed to cover the core competencies of clinical research and investigation! Get hands-on experience and build your expertise with this collection of 3 courses covering study design, statistical approaches, and scientific communication. Bootcamp credits can be applied toward the Clinical Investigation Graduate Certificate or Master of Science Degree.

We celebrate MTPCI, MSCI, and KL2 alum Jennie Kwon, DO, MSCI for her recent recognition in Briefcase Coach as one of the “50 Women Shaping the Future of St. Louis.” As an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases, she is helping advance research to improve patient care, and she has a strong commitment to mentorship.

We are inspired by the life-changing work that KL2 Alum, Andrej Spec, MD, MSCI is doing at the Invasive Fungal Infections Clinic at WashU Medicine. As the founding director, Dr. Spec is leading efforts to prioritize research that informs the diagnosis and testing of complex, often misdiagnosed fungal infections. With patient care at the forefront, Dr. Spec’s team is delivering timely diagnoses and top-tier treatments that are transforming lives.

The Office of Technology Management recently honored the talent of WashU inventors, researchers, and faculty entrepreneurs at the 8th Annual WashU Celebration of Inventors. Congratulations to K12 Oncology Co-Director, John DiPersio, MD, PhD for being named as one of five Senior Members for 2025 by the National Academy of Inventors. Additional congratulations to MTPCI and KL2 alum Ben Palanca, MD, PhD; MTPCI and DDFRCS alum, Molly Stout, MD, MS; and K12 Oncology alum, Allegra Petti, PhD who were recognized for their 2024 patents.
