Hi Neighbor!

I was so close, I could taste it. After several mind-numbing years stuck in baby pool jail, I was breaking free. I was going to hang with the big guns, the parents who lounged poolside with a good book and a cold drink while their children swam. I used to sit in the uncomfortably warm baby pool (trying not to think about why it was so warm) and study these parents like they were another species. They brought books (and read them!), chatted with their friends (for hours!) and wore totally impractical (but great-looking) bathing suits. They spent all day at the pool. All day! (Two hours was pushing it for us.) Yet as time passed, I could feel myself slowly but surely moving in their direction. My kids ditched their floaties and learned to swim. They also ditched their naps so we could stay longer. Just when I was on the cusp of joining their ranks, I screwed everything up: I had another baby. Suddenly, I was tossed back in the baby pool with all the other exhausted parents counting the minutes until naptime.

But this time it’s different. It’s not my first rodeo, so when I watch those parents at the big pool lounging in the sun, I know I’ll get there soon enough. And when I do, I’ll probably be sad that my kids don’t need me in the same way. Right now, as I sit on the edge of the baby pool and gaze at my sweet baby girl with her chubby thighs and sun-kissed face, I know that this is exactly where I’m supposed to be.

ENJOY!
Kate
