2018 Ruth Ravich Patient Advocacy Award Nominations
We are now accepting nominations for the 2018 Ruth Ravich Patient Advocacy Award through Friday, February 16.
Awarded annually since 1991, first by the Society for Healthcare Consumer Advocacy (SHCA) Board of Directors, and now by the PAC thought leaders, the award recognizes an individual for outstanding contributions, dedication, leadership and loyal service to fellow Patient Advocates.

Service Recovery: Keeping It Real (Time)
Featuring Guest Expert Pamela Segura, Director of Patient Relations and Service Excellence, Cook Children’s Healthcare System

Quarterly PAC Connection Calls provide the opportunity for networking and idea sharing with peers. In addition to a brief presentation, each call includes time for general discussion on the issues most impacting patient advocates today.

PAC Community Gathering at Patient Experience Conference 2018

Each year at Patient Experience Conference, the Patient Advocacy Community gathers to network and share their challenges, successes and best practices. All are invited to come together to engage in a discussion on the emerging role of the patient advocate and state of the community. The annual Ruth Ravich Award is presented during this gathering.
PAC Resources
The PAC Regional/Local Work team has been working hard on developing resources for anyone trying to put together a local advocacy team or better manage current teams. In addition to the recently released toolkit on Technology, the next toolkits on Membership and Education are in progress and will be available soon. 
The PAC work group members are excited to continue to offer support to the local/regional patient advocacy groups. If you have additional thoughts or ideas, please contact PAC Leader Kim Pedersen.

A Note from PAC Leader Kim Pedersen
January 1, 2018 is just a date on the calendar but for many of us, including patients, families and staff, the new year can be a catalyst and a milestone for the future. It can represent possibility, hope and a chance to begin again. The start of a new year formalizes this for so many.
When navigating our role in patient advocacy, we need to acknowledge, discuss and leverage the possibilities. What gives our patients and families hope? Encourage them to realize that each moment allows for hope, potential, hard work and commitment.
We must help our patients and families understand the importance of consciously choosing to achieve thier goals. 
Carl Band said it best: “Although no one can go back and make a brand-new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand-new ending.”
