BIRT Community Update | 09.11.2021 The Bias Incident Response Team (BIRT) met earlier this morning and reviewed reports of a bias incident that occurred late last night on LMU’s Westchester Campus. The incident involved the occupants of a passing vehicle directing repugnant racial epithets at community members walking on campus. Public Safety is conducting an investigation and will share its findings with the Office of Student Conduct and Community Responsibility (OSCCR). The university will continue to follow appropriate policies, protocols, and procedures. BIRT will provide further updates on its website if appropriate information becomes available.

Excerpt from LMU’s Non-Discrimination Policy Concerning Biased Incidents The university does not tolerate hate crimes or bias-motivated incidents and will respond to them with appropriate sanctions that may include: for students, expulsion, suspension, or exclusion from the campus; for faculty and staff, disciplinary action up to and including termination. Students, faculty, or staff who experience or witness any form of hate crime or bias-motivated incident should immediately report it to Public Safety.
